Ram has been doing that for many years with their Hemi
engines.....I think Cadillac started it years back.
You cannot tell when the 4 cyl drop off or come back on
except for the lite in the dash OFF when on 8 and ON
when on 4. So smoooth it's not noticable when you
driving. Of course can't speak for Chevy stuff.

from D's post ; Rated at 23 MPH in a full sized
Silverado

Thats pretty darned SLOOOOOW for a full size V8!

Yep, GMC sold Cadillacs with the 4-6-8 engine. Load
on engine changed the number of cylinders.

this was in the late 70s early 80s. Was a total
disaster, engine rebuilds, power problems, mileage not
what was expected. Was especially bad in
hilly/mountain areas.

GMC actually had to BUY THEM BACK. Friend bought one
of the hatch-back full-size caddie with a blown
engine. He changed the engine and transmission.
Never was a good car.

MAYBE, they did it correct this time!!! Surprises me
that following that major disaster that GMC management
would allow this new engine.

But remember GMC is owned by the union and the
government, two groups not know for decision making.

It should have the 5.0 (305) at least the older ones ran forever, had decent power, and decent MPG. I used to be chevy guy and switched to Ford, thirty years ago. Chevy's have better ride and interior, but ford's power train lasts far longer. You'll like the crew cab, way more comfortable, than extended cab. Is that the 6 1/2 foot bed or did you luck into full size one?

Nope just a 5.0.
I'm not for sure about the cylinder deactivation thing.
I did not find any in my search for the truck.
They seem "all in" on there Eco boost v6.
Got some "bugs" to work out yet.
Like the rear door locks, there is an actuator on each that seams to be controlled by some kind of poltergeist. And the tailgate lock, Why I need a tailgate lock?, but the dealer said they will fix both, free. Two weeks ,I need it at 100% hunting starts and I hope to be out a lot.
Next is a DEER guard , and LED light bar.

That back door thing is a "Kid lock out".  just find the deactivate lever on the door in the jam area, not accessible from inside, door must be open.

Check at Napa to get replacement higher output bulbs, they give you much better view at night. They say off road use only, but really light up the road, I haven't been stopped for them yet.
