I just picked up Heritage rough rider revolver, 22rf and 22mag cylinders, 4 3/4" barrel, $150 otd @ cabelas. I've thought about getting one several times, just 4S&G. I don't know why, but I wanted both cylinders, even if 22mag is seldom used. I took it out back and shot box of 22 though it, surprisingly accurate and half decent trigger. I was having no problems @50yds, lot quieter for neighbors, than 9 or 45 on Sunday afternoon. Grandson should like shooting it too, as soon as Mom gives OK.

Pretty inexpensive for sure..never had one but have seen
them in stores..certainly not in same class as Ruger SS
or SX (single ten)..Wonder how long they will last with
extensive shooting?
Like the timing and general wear & tear of metal parts
from lots of using.

Have a Ruger convertible. It's a Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde gun. Shoots the
long rifles accurately and in a mild mannered way. The magnum
cylinder turns it into a ear ringing little monster that has the blast and
recoil of a scaled down .357 magnum. Accuracy goes away too.

I'm interested in hearing a range report on how that Heritage does with
the magnums.

I shot the heritage with the 22 mags, followed by 22 cci long rifle mini mags, just now, other than being a little harder on 22rf poppers, it was just as accurate or maybe a touch better, with mags. I couldn't feel or hear difference in recoil or blast. I'm pretty hard of hearing and I had muffs on, so I'm sure without ears, there could be difference. I haven't tried shooting 22 long rifle in mag cylinder, mag cylinder may be more accurate of the two, 22 long cylinder does have one chamber, that shoots to left.

Other than increased expense, I see no reason, not to use mags.

Those are surprising results to me. Mine is a Bicentennial model I
bought new. My first handgun. In all these years it never occurred to me
to try a LR in the mag cylinder. In any case it sounds like you have a
shooter.

I'd check the fit on the LRs in the mag cylinder. If I
recall correctly, the case diameter on the mag is
slightly larger than a LR and may lead to splitting.

Good catch there, 22rf is .226" and 22wmr is .242", enough it probably would've been noticeable. Jacketed 22wmr bullets must grip rifling better or maybe another brand of 22rf will shoot best. I've noticed 22s seem to prefer one ammo over another, sometimes drastically. I was using different CCI yesterday, last time I used standard velocity and it or I shot a bit better. Sights are a bit better than cap & ball, but not much, certainly not target grade.

It must be that the bbl is rifled for the diameter of
the .22 Mag bullet which is larger some than the .22LR
bullet dia....If that is the case (would have to be
since you couldn't send the larger dia bullet down the
smaller tube) anyway it would suggest for better
accuracy out of the .22 Mag on that basis alone.
what say you experts out there???????????

I have 3 revolvers with duel cylinders (.22
LR & .22 Mag) but never made any attempts to compare the
two cartridges for accuracy nor compare each revolver
against the the other two for accuracy. All 3 are
quality made of steel. Just fun guns.
