If he has lathe, can do his own chambering, threading, and contouring, Brownell has Krieger 6.5 blanks in stock. My guess is he's going with prechambered and contoured, because of savings in machining or your choice of twist.

The rifle is a Winchester model 70 push feed long
action. The donor rifle was a featherweight chambered in .270 Win. He will be installing a 24 inch Krieger 1 in 8 twist barrel chambered in 6.5x55. He is going to true the action and bed the action into a Bell and Carlson Medalist ultra light stock. The barreled action will be cerecoted. Wing master Edited by Wing master |

Robert,
I assume you are right. We didn't discuss if he was going to get a pre chambered barrel or a blank. He does have a manual lathe and a CNC lathe but I bet the time savings would be quite a bit. From looking at his Facebook page, it looks like he has been spending a lot of his time making supressors and muzzle brakes. I will give him a couple more weeks and go out and ask a lot more questions. Wing master |

He probably makes more $$$ on the 2 hours it takes to
make a suppressor than on the 10+ hours he will work on your rifle......reason for delay. |

With most barrel mfg, you can get chambered and standard contoured barrel, for about same cost, as blank. It makes more sense, for gunsmith, to use barrel, ready to install. Prechambered barrels, unless they're prefits IE: Savavage or AR, are short chambered, so smith just needs to finish chamber, set headspace, true threads, and face to receiver.
