Thinking on antelope prep.

Could take the ultra light Kimber 260.

But might want the 7mag.

what bullet would be best for antelope in a 7 mag Rem?

The kimber would be my choice with any bullet it likes to shoot.
7mm is PLENTY big for antelope.
I would go to the lightest bullet you feel good about shooting.
You looking for a LOOONG range goat?
6mm, 243, 25/06,260 will kill an antelope 300 yards no problem.
IF you want a LOOONG range goat you need to get with
"Kallen" and have his brother make you a 510 maxis Allen improved...

140-150gr bullets give best balance of BC and speed.

120gr BT has BC of .411 @3,500fps, fragile bullet
140gr AB has BC of .485 @3,300fps, medium bullet
150gr ABLR has BC of .611 @3,200fps, medium bullet
160gr AB has BC of .531 @3,000fps, stout bullet
168gr ABLR has BC of .652 @3,000fps, medium bullet

I've used both 140gr and 160gr AB on antelope and deer, 160gr on deer and elk, 140gr is better balance for antelope. I've used both of ABLR on 1K steel, hold much better in wind, but I haven't used either on game.

Having used BT at high velocity, in past, I won't use them on game again. BT or SST in 338wm is fine for deer, in calibers over 308, they're built tougher.

140gr 7mm

I'm thinking 190gr 300 Weatherby myself. I don't know if I'll have the
chance at many close shots this year? That thing is good to 1000 yards
with the proper wind dope. The 190 is a pretty tough bullet and I only
load it to 2900fps. Now the 110gr V-max at 3900fps would be a mess
waiting to happen.

I am hoping to be shooting a 6.5x55 with 140 grain
either Accubonds or Accubond LR's. If I don't come up
with an accurate load with them, a 140 grain Sierra Game
King will be my next choice. In other words, I think
your .260 would be my choice.

If I was going to use my 7mm I think I would use 140
grain bullets.

Personally, I think the most accurate load you can come
up with is best. If you can hit them with a good
expanding bullet they will go down.

Last year I was using a .308 with a 150 grain Sierra Pro
Hunter. My range finder read 387 yards. I was in a good
position and felt good about the shot.

When I shot, I lost my sight picture and by the time I
looked up I saw my antelope turn to the right and take a
step. I chambered another round and when I got the scope
back on him he was down.

I think he ran about a 20 foot circle then dropped.

I've always thought a 25/06 would be perfect, and then for the loooong stuff a .270 Weatherby, or my .270 WSM. I have taken some rerally long shots with the WSM that after the shot, I just shake my head and find it hard to believe I made the hit.

I definately don't think a 7mm Rem Mag is too much gun.

I have very limited expierence with a 7mm mag, but I am
thinking a 140 grain bullet would be very effective well
past 400 to 500 yards.

The only problem with long shots in this part of the
world is the wind.

If the wind ever quits blowing everybody in the whole
state of Wyoming is going to fall over.
