I saw my first gopher of the year yesterday.
The city 'phers come out be for the country 'phers. The one I saw was at the junior high school foot ball field. It in not uncommon to start seeing them In January . Just saying !!! Edited by d4570 |

D4570: What city was this Gopher sighting in?
I don't expect to see any Gophers around here (SW Montana at 5,200'+) for two months or so. Yeah come on spring - we got another 6" of snow last night on top of what we already had. The good news is the north wind is howling and thinning the snow pack out on the flats. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy |

Varmint Guy;
I strongly suspect that it was within the environs of Lesser Falls. 900F P.S. You do know that the much larger waterfalls are some miles downstream don't you? F |

Guys: Well the good news IS I saw my first Gopher (here
at 5,400' elevation) yesterday (February 22nd) but the bad news IS he was in my yard! 19 years ago (when I moved to Dillon, Montana) Ground Squirrels were prevalent in the wild (6 to 20 per acre) and much more prevalent in cultivated fields (80 to 200 per acre). Now they are invading yards in suburbia and vacant lots inside city limits! I don't mind the Gopher holes that have started appearing in my yard a couple years ago as much as the Badgers "enlarging" those holes into dangerous caves that peeves me. Weather is changing back from warm on the 22nd to well under freezing continually for the next 6 days - so the Gopher sighting may be a "loner" for a week or so? Come on Spring! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy |
