Hunting fishing and camping have always been more that
technique for me, sort of a life experience.

Since I started fishing as a little kid, I've found
knots important whether tying the boat to a dock pole
or tying on a # 22 dry fly.

Today started getting ready for a fishing trip, and
was thinking about some new leader material. Then I
realized that in my mind I think not of the name of
the knot, but the name of the person that taught me
the knot.

My favorite knobs are the Bob Becker, the Ratajczak,
the Gram Doll, the Dave, The Chicago Guy,and the
Kellerhouse.

I have learned (and forgotten hundreds of knots) but
these are the ones I use most often. And while most
of my Knotty above friends have passed, the memory of
teaching a nimrod remains strong.

Maybe the moral of this is ...Teach a kid a good knot
today and you will live on his memory.

My Gram Doll knot is actually a knot she taught me in
sewing. In fishing it is a double surgeons knot.

My bro' only uses a granny for everything, I call it his
tight knot on a loose line!!
