Well it sounds catchy anyways! Anyone got a good pet load for the 45-70? An H&R 1871 Buffalo rifle just wandered into my life. Open sights it whacks clays at a hundred off hand with Hornady loads and kinda would to see what it capable of.

Less then a year old. Also available in .500 SW and I believe 444 Marlin. Solid and well balanced. I believe the .500 SW is a fair bit stiffer then the 45-70 run hot. That 32" barrel should crank out everything the ole' cartridge can muster...might slow it down a bit from friction, but for practical purposes, hotter the better.

HUMMM
I got 5 stiches over my right eye that says the 45/70 has a good bark... Note to self make sure your scope has at LEAST 5" relief. I have a Marlin CB , fine rifle. It wont shoot the gummy tip 325 evolution bullet worth a crap. Hornady 300 HP shoot Wonderful . As do the Barnes 250 , there faster at 2600 fps. I have never shot cast bullets so I don't know nutten 'bout them. |

Has a nice set of irons on it, but I guess a 1.5 x would do pretty well. |

Mine is a lever action scope from Cabela's 3x9. It is kinda crappie scope.
5" eye relief, never could get used to the looks of a "Scout" scope. When $$$ stops flowing to the water bug project I'll put on a Redfield 4x12 ... with 5inch eye relief. I shoot 100 to 200 yards rottenly with great performance. Fact; Killed my best ever elk at over 400 yards with it and the 300 gr loads. Edited by d4570 |
