These are the types of "rocks" I slipped on. I was trying to cast my 12-foot fishing rod on the bank when a rock I was standing on slipped out from under my foot just as I had shifted my body, and my foreward momentum was as its strongest. As I fell foreward I let go of the rod and tried to brace my fall with my arms. I smacked my head on one of the boulders, and my arms were pinned under my upper body, then I slammed between two other boulders pinning my shoulders between them. I remember trying to break my fall with my arms, and that's when I broke two bones in my left wrist. I laid there stunned trying to get my bearings for a few seconds,then I tried to get up. I couldn't move any of my extremeties and a deep sense of panic set in when I tried to move one of my fingers and nothing happened. I remember thinking, oh my God i'm paralyzed! Then I heard a voice from behind me, one of the other fisherman in the area had seen me fall and came running over. He asked me if I was OK and I told him that i couldnt move and not to touch me. I thought to myself...this isnt good, I closed my eyes and prayed to my Lord And Savior Jesus Christ to make me feel my body again and not be paralized any more.The voice of the man who came to help me said, 'Sir we have to get you out of the water, and you have about a five-inch gash on your forehead and you are bleeding awfully bad.' I had no idea i had landed with my lower body in the water and was glad it was not the other way around, cause I could have drowned. I told him to give me a minute, and asked the Lord to please let me feel again... So help me, my forefinger on my right hand quivered! I told the man my finger just moved, and to give me a minute, and then my right leg spasmed, and feeling came back through my body again. Other people in the area came down the bank to where I was, and helped roll me out of the water. My wife Jennie had to go to the trailer and get two towels to sop up the blood coming out of the gash on my head, but the bleeding wouldn't stop. All this time I kept telling everyone to get my rod and reel for me but they said it fell into the water and was gone. They carried me up the rocky bank and when they got to the top, they told somone to call the ambulance fast, because I was losing too much blood. I heard the man say, Ma'am you are going to have to move because we have to sit him down, and then I heard Jennie say in a stern voice, I'm Praying! She put her hand on my shoulder, said a prayer, and so help me God, when she lifted her hand from my shoulder the bleeding stopped! And never came back! The people around us were dumbfounded! Don't ever underestimate the power of prayer! The ambulance finally came and took me to hospital in Mountain Home where they stitched my head up (18 stitches i think) then sent me to the Trauma Hospital in Boise. Xrays showed that i cracked a vertrebrae in my neck and a bone spur in my spinal column that jammed into my spinal nerve causing the paralysis. I have to have surgery on the bone spur, but i'm mending nicely. Big shout out to my Brother PeeWee, my Brother in Law George and of course my Niece Dawn and all the people i didnt know who helped me. But the Biggest Shout out goes to MY LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, without whose help this post wouldn't be possible. Oh yeah, two days later a fisherman snagged my rod and reel and turned it in... after he fought the gigantic Carp that was attatched to it. Edited by varmintcaller |

Forget the rod/reel....you saved the most important thing. I
fished like that earlier this year and thought at the time the rocks were beyond my present capabilities. Sounds like you have a good handle on things. Our prayers will be with you on the 21st. |

Varmint;
As was said, the most important thing got saved! Good luck on the surgery & rehab. Many folks say the rehab's worse than the injury! I shot a couple of gophers for ya this morning. All the best to you. 900F |
