Man my saw just burnt up!!!! It was an "OLD" craftsman worm gear drive 7" all aluminum saw. It was My grandfathers that's how old this thing was and had to weigh 20 pounds. The cord has been cut many times and it had a short to the case . You remembered that part when you where on an aluminum ladder all stretched out hanging over the edge and pull the trigger Boy would that light you up. But this thing would cut ANY thing. Once I had some carbide and metal cut of blades and I CUT a car body off the frame ... Anyway she gave up today in a last blaze of sparks, smoke and fire. KA POOT . I went and got a skill saw 15 amp worm drive for under $200 You think it will last 50 years ??? I'll bet not. D |

I still have my dads Electro circular saw. He died in 1957, so
it ain't new. VERY heavy all metal, I'd not want to cut roof 2x6 all day with it. |

I still use Skil from 77, was their new lightweight model, the old one with all alum parts was a bit heavier.
Used to use it on job, it got a lot of abuse, just change gear oil regularly and they keep going. When you cut cord, just use 50ft 12gauge cord on it, keeps plug out of way and it's heavy enough, saw won't baulk. Used to have 10" "beam" saw, it was even heavier duty and would cut 4x headers, with one pass. |

I use to have a dirt cheap Penneys 8 inch plastic circular
saw...weighed next to nothing. Great SUPER light, nice to handle and guide. After 10 years of heavy use it burned out. But all in all it was well worth the $$ and I'd get another if I was cutting a lot of stud walls. |

Fella's;
Out here at the ranch I found a MALL brand circular saw. I don't know how old it was, but the patent date was in Roman numerals! It's burnt out though. 900F |

I have a Craftsman circular saw bought in about 1971....has a electronic blade brake that still works too. Saw is home use only not commercial use which is why it has lasted so long. Never a hitch with it 'cept when someone cut the cord at some time in history. Mostly aluminum with plastic handle and grip knob. Never an issue with the motor either.
CB...I have two Craftsman saber/scroll saws...same models about circa 1994 or so. Well built but still have plastic on bodies/handle. Can't speak for the new models now days. |
