Fella's;
I went gopher shooting yesterday. I'd met the patriarch of one of the old-line local families this past new year's eve. I'd mentioned that I liked to shoot gophers & he said he'd get ahold of me. Well, yesterday afternoon he showed up at the house unannounced & said to c'mon, time to shoot gophers. I didn't expect much, but also wasn't going to pass up the opportunity. We hopped in his Polaris & trundled down the highway, which gave me a major case of the "willies". This thing was good for about 35 mph top end & the road frequently has loaded double-bottom semi's on it bookin' for oblivion. No rear view mirror either. Every once in a while he'd ask me to look out the back & see if something was coming. Be still my fragile heart! Nonetheless, we lived to get to his place, maybe five miles down the road & off the limestone cap our place is on. It wasn't the Dana place, but it sure wasn't too bad either! I got maybe 80 gophers in a couple of hours shooting. Probably went through close to 200 rounds of ammo. I find that my eye surgery has affected my shooting to some degree. I find it much harder to pick up a gopher when I transition from naked eyes to scope. All I can say is that it seems the angles are different. That's not a big surprise, I first noticed this when I shot some pool. I'm just going to have to shoot more to get dialed in again. Oh the pain! So, there's a gopher town only five miles from the ranch, and it's well populated. Things are looking up this year. 900F Edited by CB900F |
