I am getting out my "stuff" as I want to load up some .38 Sp and .270 Winnie (I am going to CA and it has to be lead-less and hard to find, at a decent price in my area).
For standard (cleanliness wise) brass how long should it be tumbled? |

I use crushed walnut hulls for tumbling media. I have noticed it makes a difference how old the media is.
If it's new 4 or 5 hours cleans it up real good. If I haven't changed the media in a while I tumble brass longer. I just check on it every once in a while. When it shines like a new penny it's done. Wing master |

Just to clean I use a "green" colored corncob media and it
cleans in my vibrating machine pretty well in a couple of hours...dull clean...need the "red" colored stuff for really shiny brass. Think it is Lyman stuff. |

I use the Zilla brand desert sand lizard bedding, it's crushed walnut shell the right size, to not stick in flash holes. It does much better job than corn, add a couple squares of used dryer sheet, to catch the dust and a bit if nu-polish if desired.

I use walnut shells with some small amount of red rouge.
The minimum time depends upon how dirty/oxidized the cases are. 4 hours is about the least time. You can't over tumble using walnut; I often tumbel them over night 10-14 hours. |
