My 870, I ask a lot from it and she never lets me down.

Bunny busting to goose slamming.
Deer to coyotes.
Hot - cold, wet - dry , Mud - clean.
She does it all and very well.
AND she eats any thing you can stiff in here.

All with the elegances of a John Deere.
and the finesse of a Mule...
But I love her and would be hard pressed to replace her.
Maybe with a close cousin Versa max

Go pro camera, and a sling.
You can't see the last 5" of the barrel and the extended ported choke

D;

Go Pro camera huh? I thought it was a midget alien landing craft.

Have you ever noticed that all the aliens are either our size, or relative giants? Why not itty-bitty aliens? Is this discrimination? Get the ACLU on it right away!

It actually helps. Feels kinda odd at first but it makes the gun come up to the shoulder "FLAT" and takes a LOT of recoil out of them Heave 3 1/2 goose loads.

Oh yeah, and how do you like the pistol grip stock? I have been thinking about getting something like that for a house gun.

The only problem with my house gun project is that I would like to cut the barrel to 18 inches and I am having a hard time deciding to cut a vented rib Wingmaster barrel off. I guess I need to just do it.

Wing!!;

You can buy an 18" open barrel for the 870! Don't cut that vented rib. They're not all that expensive either. In fact, I just checked Brownell's, they have the 18" cylinder bore barrels in stock, part #767-000-957WB, under $150.00.

Love it!
It makes me put the gun in proper alignment, FLAT.
Kinda awkward at first but you get used to it, actually it's harder to get used to carrying it . It take out a huge amount of the recoil off your shoulder.

As far as the brass hull slug.
it is a 350 gr copper jacketed aluminum hallow point. loaded over a nitro card and two 10 gauge 1/4" fiber wads, no plastic wad. 800x if you can find any. I can't crimp the hull like a rifle so I glue it in with fast epoxy. I have checked the speed with the magnospeed and it runs right at 1750 fps out of a rifled barrel, can't use a choke on this one.

870s do it all. I have a 12 ga with a 3" chamber and the barrel is cut to 22 inches and I put a poly-choke on it. I have a bridge mount with a red-dot Tru-Glo on the weaver mount. It goes on and off in less than 30 seconds.

This is my travel gun for Florida. It does deer, wild boar with slugs, and the same day does coyotes with buckshot and pheasants with #5s. If I find a BigFoot in a swamp, I'm sure it will handle it also.

Added benefit is that as a bedroom gun it has that "k-chunk" sound as slide is cycled in a motel room when things go bump in the middle of the night. What more could a gun do?

Fella's;

My house gun is also an 870, one of the very few Remington's I own. It's the Home Defense, or HD model, with the 18" cylinder bore barrel and extended mag which goes about 3/4" beyond the muzzle! I've put an A/R type buttstock on it that'll click to three or four positions. That buttstock also incorporates a pistol grip. The forestock has a strong light in it, operated by a thumb-pressure switch that's part of the forestock.

Since I don't have neighbors, in the urban sense, it's loaded with alternating buck and slug.

The 870 Rem is a good shotgun. I have a LH version in 12ga
with screw in choke system, 28" bbl. w/vent rib. Pretty
much retired now in favor of a M-97, M-500, various SxS's
and O/U's for most hunting situations.

The only thing wrong with the oft touted "k-chunk" sound
as slide is cycled
is that it should already have a
shell in the chamber if it is a house/castle self defense
gun. May be too late when the perp is already coming for
you. Quicker to just push trigger guard located safety OFF
as you point at target. Light is a great idea tho.

The "k-chunk" sound is a great value in defending oneself. Might not have to confront or even fire.

Most people familiar with their pump gun can close the action "k-chunk" as fast as removing the safety.
