evening, all.
a local pawnshop was closing their doors and one of my employees has been helping them clean out their inventory on his free time. he brought over a box of 250 of these Largo factory loaded rounds and said i could have them if i wanted and that he may be able to find alot more as they continue to clean out the shop. took them for no particular reason. have nothing to shoot them in but figured it'd be fun to remedy that. i'm considering an astra 1921 400 (primary), a star model super (secondary) or a destroyer bolt action carbine (kinda but not really) but have no experience with either. some decent reviews of each here and there with some searching. i really like the looks of the astra. just odd enough to please my eye. it'd be a neat little addition to the tok, mak milsurp collection. any experience with either of the semi-auto' here at the baitshop? k Edited by klallen |

I have a Star Super. I found some 9mm Largo at a gun show a couple of years ago. It shoots pretty good. A lot of the surplus ammo is corrosive. That is something to look for. When I got the gun the former owner had been shooting .38 Super ammo through it. The dimentions are almost exactly the same, but the pressures of the .38 Super is higher. I don't plan on shooting .38 super, but when the supply of 9mm Largo dries up I guess I will have a paper weight. The other option is, Back in the 80's someone made a replacement barrel for the Star Super's the was chambered for 9mm Lugar. I have been looking for one off and on for several years but haven't run across one yet. If you change your mind about getting a gun to fit your ammo, let me know. I would be interested in it. thank you for he review, wm. i think that "1911 style"
is what's pushing me towards the astra. i have several clones but nothing like the oddity that is the 400. that said, your star is always eye-catching. starline must make an occasional run of brass for the largo as it's all over gunbroker right now. we'll never have to have a paperweight ;o) . i'm going to pick up some real soon. had another 650 rounds of factory stuff dropped off yesterday with the claim that there's more in the store somewhere. some of it's cci. most foreign. some marked non-corrosive. and then some boxes just look ancient. no idea of what i've got there. will have to do some research. most of it looks like brass cases but i guess will have to shoot or break apart to see if it's boxer or berdan. i gotta get something purchased soon. ammo and no firearm for it is kinda silly. least that's the logic i'm using with my wife. she just rolls her eyes at the comment. lol. i think she knew what i was doing before i knew what i was doing..................smart gal. k |

I think having ammo is a good reason to buy a gun. The most flimsey excuse I have used that worked was buying a gun to fit a bayonet I had. I inherited this gun, so I have nothing in it. It's not something I would have bought. If it would shoot ammo that was readily available, like 9mm Luger, I probably would shoot it more. Maybe I will run across a barrel one of these days. Fella's;
I'd certainly check "Cartridges Of The World" and perhaps one of the earlier editions. Frank Barnes usually had some good information about the oddball cartridges & sometimes about the guns that fired them. 900F |

Thats a good idea 900f. I have read that a lot of people shoot 38 Super through these guns without any problems. I have also read that under no condition should you ever shoot 38 Super through these guns because of the higher pressure. It would be interesting to see what Cartridges of the world said. It's my understanding the .38auto, .38super, 9mmlargo, 9mm steyr,
9x23winchester are all virtually identical dimension wise. But the high pressures of the .38 super and 9x23win are not safe in semisuto's built for the lower working pressures of the auto, largo (bayard) or steyr. Cotw is the second thing I referenced when I was trying to decide if I wanted to even take the factory stuff. When I get my Astra or star, I'll personally never fire super or win rounds through it. Its not an issue of function as when the handgun will give up under the stresses it was never ment to work under. K |

I had a box of 50 8mm given to me. That was enough impetus to buy a
gun for them. I have a set of RCBS .38 auto dies I'd be willing to sell or trade if you're interested? DD |

That is my thoughts too Klallen. I plan on only shooting 9mm Largo through mine as long as I can find ammo. Wing master |
