Fella's; Those who've been to MYGAWDS & seen the family ranch will be surprised the next time they visit the property. The first big change is that plan A has me no longer living in Great Falls. The second big change is that y'all won't recognize the ranch house. Major additions and revisions are in the works. The works actually started last fall when the footings were poured, but that was hardly noticable. Just a warm-up band. The full-house-boogy rock&roll show started today. When the music stops, we're gonna be living out there full time. The Great Falls house is up for sale if anybody feels the need to increase their gopher-shootin' possibilities. We're going out 14 more feet from the old garage towards the equipment barn. From the front of the original house the footings come out 30 feet & then go to meet the 14 foot northern extension. All of that plus 17 feet of the original house get a second story. The garage will be 30X30' with a full second story above it. I get a 12' X 18' man cave to play with layout & furnishings as I desire (within SWMBO's definition of reasonable). The reloading bench is set though. I salvaged a 12'6" length of bowling alley approach for that. Talk about your rock-hard maple. And it looks sooo cool too. The range benches were poured last fall when the footings were. The forms have been pulled, but the swivel seat bases need to be painted & have the seats attached. I didn't let that stop me from inaugurating the range though. I eyeballed 200 yards from setting a target stand & drove back to the benches, lazed it & got 192 yards. I then put a tractor seat loose on the base & took a look through the 3X9 scope at the target. And just what the hell was that odd tan spot out in the field beyond the target stand? Out comes the spotting scope, which revealed a doe antelope, all alone, just laying down about 300 yards beyond the target. Since it's illegal to harass game animals, I didn't do that. However, I did inspect some fence in that direction. Eventually, I got to shoot a little bit too! At 200 the gun was a touch high & the wind was gently wafting left to right. Damn good thing I inspected that fence, because it'd be just my luck that I might have committed a fairly major awsh!t! if I hadn't. Couldn't make the shot on a bet, but by accident's a different story. That'd been a helluva way to break in the range. We've still got to get an accurate measurement of what's going to be possible, but a thousand yards is a given. We're just wondering if we can get a mile safely. 900F

That sounds like a nice place. I am betting all the renovations to the house will take all summer. Probably and then some. I just hope they don't put the door knobs on the wrong side of the doors to fit the left handed people. Wing master Edited by Wing master |

So the excuse that you just thought it was a big gopher wouldn't have worked? Those dish and mame folks sure are finicky!
It would sound to me as though you have this whole family retreat designed as a mancave........unless I'm missing out on the sewing room or pilates and yoga area, it would seem to be any mans get away cave......Well done. It is doubtful that I could be effective at a mile anymore, but at a thousand? Thats a nice fun distance for lobbing! |

Fella's; This is the end of my first week back at work. The shop has had some personnel changes & one member has his two-week guard duty to perform, so I was asked to come back for a coupla weeks. Never hurts to keep yer hand in, and it doesn't hurt to have a little income also. But, it has cut down on my available time. The house in town is up for sale & therefore has to be kept neat as a pin, which drives me up a wall. But Mrs. 900F is obsessive about it & I gotta live with her. So no more than I get offa work & come home, but I get put to work here doing all sorts of nit-picky little stuff. Except if people are coming to look at the house, invariably during dinner time, and then I get to work late. And all that's complicated by the building project going on up at the ranch. All the concrete's poured, and if it doesn't rain, hail, snow, or have the odd tornado come through, framing starts next week. The fun's gonna be when the roof comes off part of the existing house so the second floor can go up. I don't get to ride my motorcycle much any more! But this weekend's going to be spent up there since we're having an open house down here in town. Having this much "fun" on a permanent basis would drive me to drink! 900F |

let's see. If you keep the ranch truck at the ranch...what a nice ride down thru the Belts!!! Yes, I know...you like to make trips with"stuff' for the ranch when you go down there. But remember, Italian ladies need to be respected and not over looked |

I like the way you think Bear. It might take 2 or 3 trips to transport a one pound box of nails, but it would be a lot more fun than hauling them in a pickup. Retired guys aren't suposed to be in a hurry anyway. And think of how much better gas milage you would get. Wing master |

Fella's; Framing did start yesterday, windows got ordered, and I gave the plans for the safe support stand to the fabricator guys. The floor of the house, and therefore the man cave, is approximately 23 inches above the grade of the garage slab, which extends under a portion of the man cave. The safe's heavy enough that it's not really a good idea to rely on the floor to support it. So it'll have a steel tubing frame as support. Getting the safe onto the frame is going to be "interesting" but nothing too far out of my experience. In other words, extreme worry & fretting will be limited to the women & children. And guys, don't worry about Foo either. He just bats his dings different from anybody else in the history of the known world. 900F |

Sounds like you are doing everything right 900f. Not cutting corners will pay off in the long run. If I remember right, Foo lived in your neighborhood in town. Any chance he is going to follow you to your country home. If he does, you might think about installing two safes. If you don't he will probably steal all of your Coors Light. Wing master |
