I have an old German utility straight blade from around the 20's I beleive, it stays sharp, but isn't 100% and I keep it as a just because knife. I won't be out much if it is junk as I found it, but a guy I work with says he has one just like it and they were made 1920's era. It says Sabre Monarch 131 or 737 on one side of the blade and Solingen Germany on the other. Any ideas? |

Paul, as far as I've found they seem to be worth around $10-20. There are a few on ebay now and then for around that. They were originally just a plain utility knife, nothing special. Maybe having the sheath will increase the value? There seem to be a bunch out there and nobody really seems to desire them. It is a nice little knife to have around and I use it quite a bit.

Welcome Paul, I also have the identical knife. In about 1962 I made a leather back quiver for whitetail deer hunting. i made a knife pocket and bought the Sollingen knife for that purpose. the leather is just ablut shot on the quiver and I've made lots of repairs to it. the knife is still in the pocket with its sheath. i used it for enough years that it probably gutted 5-6 deer. I bought it at a "department store" for aboout $6.95. It takes a good edge and maintains it well the leather washers on the tag grip have dried a little so the stag turns slightly under pressure. I guess I made a poor investment, the Puma I bought a year later for $22 seems to be selling for about $175. |

I'm 16 years old and for a year or two I've been collecting knives. I purchased a similar but shorter knife off a man at an auction for $5. I hadn't relized at the time that it was a German knife. After I washed it off I found it said Solinger Germany on one side and Sabre Monarch 151/757 on the other. However the auction was of the property of an old woman who had passed away, and it was possible that her husband had served in the military during war time. So it is possible that these were Nazi fighting knives. Plus from your photo I believe the hilt is backwards and bent, but I could be mistaken. Or these might have been personal adjustments of a former owner of the knife. Please write me if you find out anything about it at dizzyninjamh@aol.com |

Solingen made Officer's and other Nazi party daggers during and prior WWII. These daggers were made by many companies but as collectability goes Solingen is one of the more desireable. I can't tell you anything about your knife other than the company was known for high quality products. DD |

I have one of these knives too in showroom condition. My grandfather left it to me. He has used it for deer several times and just took great care of it. Have another of them that was found in a box of tools i bought at a yard sale, not as clean but in decent shape. Great knives for hunting, or utility. I use the fair specimen for squirrels and the slim blade works wonders on them. Huntinbull |
