I took the BIG GUN ,45/70 out for a test today in preparation for bear season. I wanted to try it off my sticks and see if all was well. It was...I'm using my pet load 300 gr Hornady going 2400 fps. The first target was 100 yards using the 100 yard hash ( center) the marks on the target are an inch apart. The next one is at 200 yards with the 200 hash in the scope. My reloads are a little hotter then the "Evolution" shells and that is what the scope is for. I tried it with the 100 hash at 200 yards and I'm 9" low.Looks like the gun will do it's part if I do...

I felt I should not have missed the last dog so I put the 22/250 on paper too. Looks like I just missed the dog.I'm shooting a speer 52 MK 3800 fps. The first one is off sticks at 100 yards scope on 5 power, the box with the picture ( Center) is about 1 1/2" square and the marks are 1" apart. The next one is at 200 yards off sticks still aimed dead on and on 12 power. All 6 shots are still all but in the 1 1/2" box.SO at 300 yards I should have been still  on fur, just missed I guess.

Cabalas lever action  4X9 in 45/70.

Not a tremendous scope but it is holding up to the recoil . I have noticed the POI will change as you increase the power, but after 10,000 shots you get a feel for it.

had a marlin 1895SS put a simmons 2X10 on it, got one to many black eyes from it. Traded it in for the 1895SBL put a bushnell 2X6 pistol scope on it and seems to do well. I like the 405 gr bullets. Lead or remington. Haven't shot it enough to get a feel for the drop on the bullet yet.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE AT LEAST 5 INCHES OF EYE RELIEF!!!! I have 5 stitches in my eye brow to prove that too.

The scope must be able to take the tremendous recoil too.

I push my bullets WAY to hard to use lead. At 2400 to 2500 fps the lead will shear off. I have a load for the Barnes 250gr that pushes 2700 fps and is even more accurate..

  My 1895

Has a 1x4 leupold. its tons of fun.   (i don't know how i got italics nor how to get rid of it) If i turn the scope past 2.5 or so i get cut.

my load is a 350 grain hornady flat point , over imr 4198 to about 2000 fps.

I decided to bench rest it once and cranked it to 4 power. I knew i was was bleeding after the 1st shot and this little girl looked at the cut and stated crying. but i fgured before i did any thing about it i would turn it down and shoot 2 more. got 3 shots into 1.10 at 100 yards.

A few years latter out elk hunting i decided to shoot a pop can off hand at 100 yards. my buddie bets me a 5th of bacardie i can,t.

so i crank it up to 4 power. I will bleed for godd rum most anytime.

my buddie laughs at my cut eye and says let me try, I told him to turn the scope down or he would cut himself too.

he says, no i won't. I,m smarter than you. Sure enough splits his head open too. we walked to the can and 2 holes a bout an inch apart.

The best part was his kids laughing. he teaches them martial arts so they liked seing him get punched in the eye for a change...tj3006
