Topic: Hoping for a Draw or two. Posted: 11 June 2003 at 19:03 |
How about all you hunters out there who live in areas where tags are distributed on a "draw" basis. When do you have to apply? Have you applied yet for this year's draws? Here in British Columbia, The closing date for applications [except Grizzly Bear] was today, June 11. I have made application for Bison, Moose, Elk, Mule Deer [antlerless] and Bighorn sheep. Hope to get at least one, maybe two. The antlerless deer draw is a good one, blackpowder only, and usually is undersubscribed, which means the odds are less than 1:1. Odds on the moose are around 5:1, the elk 8:1 and the bison 100:1. Sheep is the tough one, and odds can go as high as 300:1 However, if one draws these latter two, the odds of harvest are very good to excellent. Post and let us know how it works in other areas of the continent. Regards, Eagleye. PS, North Logan: What for and where did you put in this year?

well, in s.d., the elk, bighorn, and mountain goat tags have already been drawn. black hills deer tags are due in 2 weeks. the other 2 rifle draws are 2-3 months out.
no deadline for archery deer. deadline for archery antelope has passed, i think. fall turkey is due in a week, i think.

Hunting is not a matter of life or death; it is much more important than that.

Hi EAGLEYE >> Down here in MT, I'm hoping for another limited antelope buck tag in the same area I drew for last year. Put in for my bull elk this year. , of course.
Have a hunting partner that dropped over $600 for the application fees of him, wife and kid. Must have signed up for a crack at everything MT has to offer. Be nice to have the $$$ to do that. Anyway, good luck to all the applicants. Hope ya'll get what you're looking for. Later. >> klallen

The place I put in for is such a limited draw, it's like winning the lottery. But those lucky soals that do draw get the bulls of a lifetime. I'll keep the fingers and toes crossed for the both of us . Take care. >> klallen

BCboy; Sorry about your shutout on the draws. I did a little better than you. Not quite ZIpppppppppp, but close. I drew one mule deer tag in 7-33H [antlerless, Dec 1-20, Blackpowder, muzzleloading external hammer rifle only]. The moose will have to be general season again...not too difficult up here. The elk...OK, but a little iffy in general season. The sheep and Bison, forget those!! Regards, Eagleye.

End of the 3rd week in August ... that's when I find out about the antelope and elk limited draw permits down here. Fingers and toes will be crossed for the next month and a half. Also considered starting to go to church for a little added help, but we don't want to get to crazy with this stuff. I'm not that desperate yet ;o) . Later. >> klallen
