I saw a decent savage 99 at a hawk shop today, It was a .308. It was a newer one probably late 60s, with a tang saftey and it had a brass counter. The asking price was 400 bucks. I am thinking hard about it. I take of tomorrow, for my oriantation on my new job, And if i still want it when I get back I think I will offer 375 cash. I have a model 88 that is a real good rifle, but the savage has better ballance and just feels more like a lever gun than the 88. I love the round and allready have 3 rifles chamberd for the .308. But for most of the hunting I do a handy rifle, with enough power and accuracy to shoot deer and elk out to say 300 yards, is prety hard to turn down at that price. Of coure my Kimber 84 and pre 64 featherweight already fit the discription, as does about 4 or 5 other rifles in the safe ! Slap a low end variable on it, like maybe a redifleld 2X7 work up a load with a 150 grain barnes tripple shock and for elk and any 150 for deer and I just might have a rifle that fits me like my less paul. ...tj3006

tj, You've got a Les Paul rifle? I'll bet she's real humbucker. LOL. Those 99s are a real classic and they seem to be one of the best offhand shooters that money can buy. As for the Les Paul, I'm envious. I have a 1971 Hofner Acoustic 12 string that's my baby. Long way from a Les Paul though. RD |

Fella's; Now let's see. I know I saw a model 99 in 250-3000 yesterday, but where? Gun show, or emporium? Didn't seem to be too bad a price on it either, but don't remember exactly how much, maybe $400.00? I don't have any particular interest in that gun, so probably wouldn't have remembered anything about it by tomorrow. But, I understand that there is a fair amount of interest in the .250-3000's from people who are interested these days. 900F |

Bear; If it's at the gun show, you have an extremely limited time to aquire it. The show closes at 3PM today. Is the PA Air National Guard renting out the back seats in F15's these days? I will go to the show today to pick up a box of Aquila .22 to run through your new gopher gun. Right now, Blazer is producing the best groups, but there's always the quest for better. 900F |

the 99 wil have to wait. Spend yesterday helping the son sight in his new 10-22 and Lgock (30 round clip) and the NIB colt 32 pocket pistol; after 6 hours at the NRA gun show. Did see a nice solid brass gattlin gun. 600 rounds per minute with 45-70. even Kp was impressed, but he kept telling the manufacture He'd buy one if they made it in 50-110! I think his quote was "...if it ain't a 50, it ain't shit" or some such. |

I'm still trying to order a 458 barrel from Shaw. Talked to their rep on Saturday, said I'd call on monday. That will make it an easy switch rifle from 338 mag to 458 and I can load 458 down to light 45-70 levels |
