Interesting memory brought back by this item. In about 1967 my brothers and one of thier buddies ( an Eagle Scout) went bear hunting and fishing in northern Ontario. I had some topo maps of some pretty good fly-in lakes, I had drawn some trails on them and the guys took a 1963 chevy van into those lakes. They had a cartop boat and my 5 hp Johnson, so they camped on an island in one of the lakes, leaving the car about 2 miles away.
After a couple of trips to and from the van, they went to sleep in my canvas 9x9 tent. In the middle of the night they were awaken by a bear in the camp pots and pans, mere feet from the interior of the tent. After lots of whispered consultations, they got one of the rifles out from under a 6-leg army cot, not an easy task. It happened to be the Eagle Scouts 458 mag on a 19 Enfield. As they prepared to encounter the bear, the Eagle Scout remembered the ammo was in the van. He suggested my brother go out and scare the bear off. When my brother mentioned the lack of ammo, the Eagle said "don't worry, the bear doesn't know the gun is empty". Many years latter that quote still gets both of my brothers and I rolling on the ground. So much for the boy scouts and the out-of-doors.
