Sir North;

Thanks, but no thanks.  When I tried Glock, I found it had two strikes against it right off.  1 - It didn't fit my hand well, and 2- I didn't find it to be particularly friendly to a left handed shooter.

Then I found H&K.  Lust at first grip.  And a maker that specifically has LH operation modes.  Now available with ambi operating levers in the USP line.  The new gun even has a slide release on both sides!  Why would I want to stray from people who like me?

And then I started shooting it.  I know I'm starting to sound like a paid employee, but I'm not.  Just a very satisfied user.

I too have shot a glock and i didnt like it either. I also dont like the fact that, last i heard, they supported firearm fingerprinting. This really pushed me away. The Ruger p97 seemed lefty friendly to me and it is chambered for .45acp. My dad has one and we both love it. It suprised me that i could shoot the .45 pretty decent. i was expecting heavy recoil that gave me a mark on my forehead, but i ended up getting 8 shots in a 2" circle at about 15 yards, which is great for me with a pistol considering i almost never get to go shooting. I am hoping that i can bug my dad enough today, since i have mowed the lawn twice since he said i had to mow it once so i could go shooting, enough to get me to bring me shooting so i can test out my new rifle.

CB900 - I admit, it took a long time for me to warm up to the Glock. However, I did gain respect for them after putting 5,000 rounds thru the M22 above on a course. It has had about 15,000 rounds thru it since I got it in 1995. The above picture was taken recently and it still is in excellent condition, even after being in and out of holsters thousands of times. Never had a fail to feed, fire, eject or extract. I also am a leftie, but don't find a disadvantage there. I have big hands, so the grip on the M22 fits me perfect. The M27 [compact] is a bit to hold onto with that stubby grip. The one above has about 5,000 rounds thru it. I recently got a great deal on a 2nd generation M17 in 9mm to play with. We'll see if I like it better than my all time favourite 9mm the Browning HP [I have a MkIII with the ambi-safety].

Regards, Marcus.

Sir North;

My H&K USP is 6 years old.  I've never had a problem of any sort at all, ever, with it.  Not with my handloads, factory, jacketed or copper washed bullets.

If you haven't tried an H&K USP, don't.  You might want to sell the Mustang & start collecting H&K's.  Well, maybe not the 'tang, but somethings gonna go.

I have 2 Glocks (26 & 34) and another on the way (17).

I love 'em.  About 5000 rounds through the 34 in the last year with no problems.  Probably half that through the 26.

Howdy Gents:

I agree with CB, the Glocks just don't fit me well.  It's the angle and the length of the grip.  I know it is a good sidearm, I just don't have any of them.  The pistols I like best of all are the Colt 1911 and the Browning Hi Power because they both have that nice thin grip.  I also like my SIG and Beretta.

Glocks...I can take them or leave them. They feel funny in my hand, but are at least ok by me. Mrs. Triggerguard HATES Glocks with a passion. She's experimented with a couple, and just flat doesn't want anything to do with them. I carry a Para-Ordnance P-12 on a regular basis, always feels right. Mrs Triggerguard packs a Makarov with Novak sights...not as powerful as a 9x19 of course, but she can hit with it.

Sluggo;

Yup, the 1911 pattern guns are nice.  And you can do about anything you want to with them.  I just don't bother with Colt 1911's.  There are some very good reasons why Springfield, Kimber, et al, were able to drive Colt out of the business of selling their own gun.  Quality control being a major factor that that situation came to pass.

I have never handled a 1911 paterned pistol, but i love the Ruger KP97 in .45 Automatic. If I ever joined law enforement, that is the pistol that i would have on my hip. As soon as i am old enough to buy a handgun i am going to buy one. I love the pistol soo much.
