Fella's; This week has been productive as far as the resurrection of the model 39A. For those who have forgotten, this sweet young thing was horribly abused as a child, not in her original wood, and rusted to boot! Really, she was dressed in rags, I'm tellin' ya! So, I detail cleaned her, and boy-oh-boy, was that ever necessary. Then, the magazine tube was crushed in one spot & just did not look good. Off she went to the smith, got re-blued and a new mag tube. I traded out lock work for that, sweet! Now, the metal's purty, but the wood still sucks ditch water. Something had to be done. Therefore, I put a notice out on a well-known Marlin board asking for wood help. Today, a reply told me of Macon Gunstocks, whose website certainly seems to offer the clothes the 39A should be clad in. I'll call tomorrow. And, as a sort of celebration, I ordered a DNZ scope mount for her. That'll allow me to put on the Leupold 4X rimfire I got from Max, & have it on there solidly. This project just may be gettin' close to bein' done! 900F Edited by CB900F |

It generally makes things go better if you do the wood then the bluing unless the stock is a drop in/direct replacement.

Rob; I'm wanting to buy direct factory replacement wood. I'd like the older dark walnut, no white line spacers, and the fat forend. That may be a futile hunt though. I called Macon Gunstocks this morning hoping that what they showed on their website was direct factory type wood. Alas, it isn't. It's the correct form, rough inletted, and unfinished. Perforce, I may have to take up woodworking. But I know from bitter experience that it's not my forte - by a long shot. 900F |

IBD; Getting new factory wood isn't a real problem. The problem is I don't want it. What I want is the old dark walnut, no white line spacers, and the fat forend. And finding that is a problem. 900F |

It would be nice to find one in "New Old Stock". But if you know a gun with the right proportions, maybe you could 'borrow' the wood and have a duplicator make one out of XXX walnut. Sweet. |

Just a thought. My kid was using a 39A at the last MYGAWDS, did it have the correct forearm? I think it is vintage 1972. I could loan you the forearem to duplicate? |

bro said he wanted to do it. don't think it happened yet. Went to gun show (with same Bro) this morning. Looking for a used decent forend for CB. Only one Marlin 39 (not 39A) there. Guy wanted $1200. Didn't think the guy would part with the forend.LOL |

Fella's; That forearm, that fat one, is about vintage 1952, give or take a few years. The actual gun I'm working on is a mid-1960's I think. But, I'm not trying for a restoration, I'm trying to just get what I want. 900F |

Yes, Cb got youo. You want a slim forearm as in the earlier m 39s. Right? It looks more like the forearm of a m 336 or a win 94? |
