As it stands right now, i use a tent with a stove that i made but i'm thinking about investing in one or the other in my post subject. Maybe some of you could tell me the pros and cons of a tent trailer. I've hear good things about tent trailers but i've also heard bad too. I'm sure some of our members on here have one or the other and can clue me in a bit. I'm not looking to invest in brand new or something big. Just something small for my hunts as i mostly hunt by myself.

I love them. They are short (meaning don't block your rearview mirror view) light, and expand upward and outward (if you buy a bigger one) to give you all kinds of room, plus they also have aircondtiioning if you want. Very inexpensive even when brand new comparatively to other forms of trailers/campers.

I have had a couple of the pop-up tent campers over time & like them.  They are rather roomy when unfolded.  Mine had a furnace and gas fridge which are nice and lights that worked on 12v or 110AC with an inverter built into the unit.  Also, one had a small 12v fan that could be aimed at the main bunk which is nice when hot out and no 110vac is available.  the unit had its own battery which charged off the tow vehicle.  AC is nice but where I hunt there is no 110vac unless you bring a generator.  In bear country they are no more safe than a tent cuz they are 1/2 tent on the foldout ends on most units.  There are "hard side" units too.  For a one man hunting group a pop-up tent camper should suffice.  That's my nickels worth!

I have a tent trailer and I love it. My wife loves it too... until she needs to do her business. then she would rather have a travel trailer.

If your wife goes with you very much I would sugest at least looking for something with a bathroom. If she is comfortable, she will go more.

Well I've had both and currently have a Scamp 13'. It all boils down to how
you're going to use the tent trailer. It worked very good for about 80% of
what we do. Where we had problems was in the rain and wind. We like to
spend time on the Wa. and Or. coasts. The weather can turn nasty and the
tent trailer just didn't cut it for us to wait out a storm. A couple of times we
had to fold up camp and leave because of the weather. This has not been a
problem with the Scamp. my only issue with the Scamp is we should have
bought the 16'.

Bear, Two is just about the limit in the 13'. In the front there are bunk
beds for two, but In real life, we just use the lower bunk. The main bed is
where the dinette is in front. Even with two it's tight but real livable. If the
weather turns two can hunker down in reasonable comfort. We went with
the high volume exhaust vent rather than an AC unit. We didn't much care
for the unit offered by Scamp. Too big. There are others that are smaller
and more efficient. We'll add that at a later date if we do much traveling
in the south west.

If we were to do it again we would get the 16'. But then I'd probably think
I needed the 19' 5th. wheeler......

Think of the 13' as a better layed out p.u. camper.

the 16 footer can have a shower and toilet, important to my wife.

The Pop-ups with pull out sides certainly gives most squuare foot for the cost, seem popular with families with small kids

The shower and toilet are nice to have in an emergency. In the 13' we have a
portapotty that gets set up in a cheap 4 man dome tent. We do have grey
water storage though. For showers we've used those solar-showers for
years when there were no facilities close by. Probably more rustic than a lot
of folks want but it does keep the riff-raff away..... . I think my wife
would like to have more amenities in the trailer. If we do a lot of traveling
will upgrade. Lot's of travel is still a ways away since I have a bit to go before
I can retire. The 13' will do fine for us for now.

I have been eye balling the 19' 5th wheel scamp though. I do like it. There
are a couple of other manufacturs that make similar trailers. Bigfoot is a nice
one also. That will have to wait.

I seem to want a smaller rig as i never go to commerical campgrounds (just can't do that).  And the smaller rigs seem to let me get remote easily.

The solar and port-a-potti are fine for me, wife NO NO,period.  So you see why we are no longer tent camping together.  I'm retired and if a nice small rig would get her out, I'd buy it.  Every time we look at a trailer, camper, or larger boat  she says.....'how many days in that???".  In all fairness she is bumping 70, so maybe I just need to go back to solo backpacking again!

My wife never really did like tent camping. Not what I was let to believe in
the beginning. She requires running water and flush toilets. That's why the
pora-pottie in an emergency. The dog and I do the real camping as I really
detest campgrounds and all that nonsense. But sometimes they are the only
game though. she's o.k. in the trailer for a couple of nights but then it's a
cheap motel for a night.

Beginning to sound like they're related... Female thing I suppose. I try
to keep it relatively comfortable. And affordable.
