Ok dumb question. Putting a scope on a .17hmr for a guy, still needs to pick one up. So whats the differance between a rimfire scope and a regular rifle scope ? As long as they have a 1" tube what else ?

Simple. The "22 RF " scopes have a focus at 35-50 yards. If you use a standard 1" scope it is usually fixed focus at 80-125 yards. Scopes always focus to INFINITE, but the near focus is the constant. I have a 1" 22rf scope on my pump 22rf cause I use it on tree rats and raccoons (close shots). i have a 1' reg scope (3-9x) on my 22 magnum. When I shoot a ground hog out of the back yard the 22rf scope is clear at 20-60 foot, my usual range. With the 22rfm the groundhog at 25 foot is just a brown fur ball, fussy. If it is a hunting gun for rabbits, squirrels, etc where range is less than 50 yards the 22 rf scope is MUCH better. Hope that helps BEAR |

Just don't get one of those 3/4" tubes, they sell as RF scopes. I put a 1.5 x 4.5 shotgun scope on 22rf semi, for my oldest daughter, good fool hen and bunny scope.

Tikka; Considering the range a .17HMR can effectively reach, I'd go with an A/O (adjustable objective) scope. Rimfire scopes usually have the focus set at something like 50 yards. Most centerfire scopes have the focus set at 150 yards. Using one in the other's range can, and does, introduce the very real possibility of parallax error. I have A/O scopes on all my good .22's for that reason. On gophers I might make a shot literally between my feet & then at 110 yards. A/O & mil-dots are a Godsend in those conditions. And that's just with a common .22 lr. Go A/O! 900F |
