Hmmm.....

How'd I manage to miss this one?

My son, is 9.  Started him out last winter with a 410 single shot that my uncle loaned him.  He had started his son's out on it and had the stock cut down to a youth size.

He hasn't hunted with it, but does real well with the clays.  I think the light felt recoil is a big asset here because he does not flinch in anticipation of it.

I got him a single shot rossi 22/20guage for Christmas.  He does not like the kick from that 20 guage and will take him some time to adjust to it.

BTW my cousins that started with this gun have grown into excellent bird hunters and skeet shooters.

Mt 410 was a very serious shotgun today. It accounted four a 4foot brown snake that was trying to send my sheepdog to heaven/hell(depending on his last work effort).

The snake has no head.To make my day complete my wife nailed a Tiger snake with it two hours later at out garage.God I love DEAD snakes.

This is a cheap Boito but I feel as if it was custom made for me.Fits as well as my Berreta used too.I've popped a few ducks with it from time to time and the odd rabbit.

Amen, on DEAD snakes.

Don't care what 'value' they are or if they are venemous or not.  Only good snake is a DEAD snake.

given an open choked,(i.c.)gun and a stock that fits RIGHT,,it can be a very capable tool. Some go the way of the 20ga.but to me the 28 ga. in a small frame pump is the berrys!!!

I know this is an old post but I used a Encore Pistol with a 12 inch barrel last fall in 45 colt/410 and the 410 worked great in it. For those close grouse shots twenty yards and less it worked great. Saw two grouse and bagged two grouse. (Nope they were not flying and I do not care, I like the taste of grouse too much so if they are sitting and do not fly that is their problem not mine.

Our gun club staged a 3 day shoot for Banning Calif Stage Coach Days, the last of the 3 day shoot was restricted to 410bore and 28g I watched them bust clays at 100 yards with 410 bore & 28g.

Bear said  "I always wanted to get some of those Savage drop in tubes to convert a 12 guage double to a 410."

I have one of those Savage fourtenner's, new in the box from the past.  Never shot it yet!  Never seen another one either.

Now I believe you can buy some short tube inserts to do the same thing.

I agree that the 410 bore shotgun is for experts for wing shooting for sure.  I use a 28ga O/U for my small gun.  .410 ammo is quite costly to buy around here, & .28ga ain't real cheap either.  But mostly I use any one of my 20ga sxs or o/u for most upland hunting.

yes the 410 is serious.  My little bro with his 410 turkey taken spring 2010 with a 3 inch 410 #4 at 27 yards.  Get them in close, no problem.

Gun is Mossberg bolt 410 with 3 shot mag, choke tubes  circa 1950.  bro is circa 1948.  LOL

Well, my turkey season is over and score is NO turkey this year.  Here is one of my setups:

I am behind the shotgun sitting along the St Croix River in Wisconsin and the turkey is across the river in Minnesota.  I call, he gobbled, many times we traded calls and I even saw him approch the river bank once (saw movement and used the binocs) but he never crosses...after an hr or so I gave up......there were no gobbles on my side of the river that day.
