I was informed tonight, that member James Carr has passed away. His neighbors had not seen him for a couple weeks, and saw his stock wasn't being cared for. They forced entry into his house, and found him dead. Apparently, he had been gone for a couple weeks. Being in Wyoming, it was cold enough, that he was in a well preserved state.
I've known Jim since 1981. All of the mountain man association knew him as Muley. He was a regular, as much as anyone is, at western national rendezvous for over 30 years.
He always made homemade ice cream at nationals, no matter how remote the site was. He was a real story teller, with an indepth knowledge of firearms, and 19th century history, that few can match.
I last talked to him a few weeks ago, as he had sent me an action, barrel, and stock, to make into a schutzen rifle. He knew he would never finish the project, and wanted someone to finish it. That, I will, and shoot it with pride.
We'll see you on the other side, Muley.

Apparently no family close by to miss him? A lonely way to check out, but kinda like the mountain men of the past did it? I never chatted with him personally but he many times imparted a view that made you think about things in a slightly different way.

Sorry for your, and I guess our loss.

DD

Endeavor to persevere.

ric -

the times i talked to him, he was always friendly and helpful. i am sorry to hear of his loss and that it was a lonely ending.

if you talk to the family again, please let them know that he had friends here and he will be missed. if anything can be done to preserve his interests and his work on this site, we'll do our best.

I'll expect to see that rifle sometime soon, Wak. It will be a good memorial.

That's a shocker. I liked him, and he seemed witty at times. His posts were all read by me with interest. I am sorry that he passed. He will be missed...............................Kingpin

The guys covered it well and don't believe I can add much more.

Nank seemed to know his way around the mountain when it came to traditional riflery, extremely well.

He'll be missed by many.
