Almost connected today had 8 toms, all with long beards close to my stand.  Damn birds were chasing each other and fighting.  Closest was about 30 yards, and I try to keep my shots inside the 20 yard radius.  If got a string tracker on the arrow to find the bird after it is hit and runs.

Rain tonight, if it clears a little I'll be back in the same tree tomorrow.  Rain should keep them roosting low tonight, for a short fly down about 9 am tomorrow..

Thanksgiving is getting close.

Stupid me, got in to my stand (5:45) only to find I left my quiver in the garage, had to go back to the house.

Age doesn't necessarily make you smarter.

BEAR: Where I Hunt Turkeys in the fall you are welcome to shoot them with any firearm including Rifles, and pistols (crossbows are welcome as well!) not just shotguns.

So far I have taken Turkeys with the following arms (not counting my shotgunnning) Ruger 10/22, Marlin bolt action 22 magnum, 223 Remington Model 700, 17 MachIV custom Rifle, 17 HMR Ruger 77/17 V/T and one with my S&W Model 647 (17 HMR revolver).

The point of aim with these arms is the triangle shaped area at the base of the Turkeys neck. One shot is all it takes and it doesn't waste any breast meat.

ANyway i hope you can get one of the long beards tomorrow!

Good luck

Hold into the wind

I'm using acrossbow, although they are legal with shotgun, rifle or long bow.  I use mechanical heads and usually shoot for the wing socket.  They seem to walk a few yards and sit down.  I don't walk up till the head falls down.

With a shotgun or rf rifle I like the head/neck shot.  I've never taken a looking at you shot but figure the base of the neck were it attaches right above the breast would work.
