Okay, if not the .30-06 - how do you feel about the .308 Winchester, then?

Remington 700 V in .308 with B&L 3000 4-14x40mmAO

Remington 700 .308 sporter with Bushnell 3200 3-9x40mm

Remington Model 7 .308 with Leupold VariX-II 2-7.

Regards, Marcus.

I have hunted with a rifle in .308 for about 7 days. It was a Ruger Compact that i borrowed to hunt elk, deer, and boar. The rifle handled nicely. The only problem with it was the scope the guy had on it. It was a Burris compact 4x. It has to be one of the worst scopes i have ever used. I would have gotten it as my main hunting rifle, but since the bolt is on the wrong side, it didnt work out.

Sir North;

If you've got .30-06's, what are you wasting money on the .308 for?  You could be investing that cash in things like H&K's!

Golly, I didn't know there was anything else. My first 308 Win was bought new in 1962: a M70 Feather Weight that my brother now owns.

Current 308's:

M88 Win w/Redfield 2 - 7 Full Field

M77 Varmint/Target W/Cabela's 3.5 - 10 Alaskan Guide

M77 MKII w/Burris 2 - 7

After lots of work these are all excellent performers.

My CHEAP .308: Turk Mauser action, Remington take off bbl, (from a Model 7, my guess. VERY slim, 21" or so..) Stock reworked from an Argy Mauser.  Timney trigger, new safety.  Weaver bases/rings, Simmons scope. Will put 2 shots from a cold barrel into .5", but then you gotta let the barrel cool down, it will then put 2 more on top of the first 2...My

    I have 2 308s and 1 30,06. Some one asked if you already have a 30.06 why do you need a .308. Answer ! I Don't ! But I wanted one real bad ! I liked the 1st( A styer pro hunter) enough I wanted another ! it is a laminated model-7 Love it too ! Now I want another 06 Probably a model 700 (already have a model 70)

  All three of these rifles are very accurate and tons of fun.If need were a factor I would have stoped after buying Thr 06. I now have 7 centerfire rifles, why 7 ? Cause I have not picked out #8 yet !

Mr. Balmy North Logan:

Love that Model Seven!

The problem with the rat race is, even if you win, you are still a rat.
