For those who haven't hunted in Penn's woods it is still loaded with game.  From Elk and black bear;  and it had until the last 5 years one the largest deer kills in the nation.  PA has great grouse, rabbit and pheasant hunting Lots of varmints from Crows, and 'otes to groundhogs.   About 8 million acres of free walk-in hunting spread throughout the state.  Hunting license available at Wal-mart is about $100 non-resident for deer/small game and varmints.  Only Elk is a drawing.  Bear licenses are available over the counter.  Great place it has fish too.

But before you think this is an outdoors man heaven, PA has something no one else has?  PGC....yep PA has a real PGC, it lurks in the Pennsylvania outdoors.  PGC= Pennsylvania Game Commission.

This is a group of non-wildlife professionals appointed by the Governor that have total control of all license money and regulations, subject only to state statutes.

Every year when I buy my license at the sporting goods shop, ie yesterday; I enter a contest as to what are the three most stupid regulations this year.

First rule of the contest is never discuss anything in front of the game wardens that might be in the store.

My three 2007 choices are:

You can hunt turkeys from a blind---As long as the blind has a roof made of man-made materials (page 36 of hunting digest).

You can now hunt doves with a party of 6 or more --as long as they are hunting from a blind!  That sounds safe and enjoyable to "party hunt" fast moving flocks of doves with a large group in a blind.

And last but not least; there are 26 different hunting requirements for wearing florescent orange, varying the square inches, where worn, when worn and if camo orange qualifies.  How could they expect anyone to get it right.  Why not just and orange hat  or a vest and camo or solid qualifies????

I think I have a shot at winning this year.
