Granddaughter and a buddy and I went shooting today.
100* very light wind, full sun.
We shot a ton of gophers GD was using Sons 17 HMR.
We could stretch it out to 150 yards. My buddy and I were using 10/22s so 100 was a LONG shot. We all got a LOT of gophers, Josie was hitting dead on at 150+.

As we were all shooting GD asked what kind of animal is running around it looks like a "small hairy pig".
We swung around to see a Badger 200 yards behind us. COOL.
I had here held a tiny bit high and shoot it.
The WHAP sounds comes back.
She hit in the spine about mid-way back.
It's running around dragging it's hind quarters. She shot 4 more times hitting it once more.
By the time we got out to it, it made it down a hole never to be seen again.
She was bummed but was excited that SHE shot a badger.
FUN DAYClap

Keep the tomatoes happy. Till we shoot again.

"Nice picks"
I sure wish we had been able to find the Badger.
We looked around for over an hour.

She is a good shot, but remember she shoots several 100 rounds a year in asst guns.Clap

I'm hoping to get her out with Lizard shooting P dogs before school starts.

Always a downer when something crawls into its hole.

One year at MYGAWDS while shooting at gophers we watched a badger chasing wildly after silly gophers.  he just didn't stop for 5 minutes.  I guess his battery ran down.

Seem to remember that in MT you need a fur-takers license to shoot them???

Furbearers (MCA 87-6-101) – Furbearing animals are legally defined as beaver, otter, muskrat, mink, marten, fisher, wolverine, bobcat, swift fox, and lynx . There is currently no season for lynx or for wolverine. Only Montana residents may hunt or trap furbearers and a license is required. Bobcats are the only furbearer that may be hunted in Montana. Ground Set (CR)

Nongame Wildlife (MCA 87-6-101) – means any wild mammal, bird, amphibian, reptile, fish, mollusk, crustacean, or other animal not otherwise legally classified by Montana statute or regulation. Examples of nongame wildlife are badger, raccoon, and red fox. There is no resident license required to trap nongame wildlife. Nonresidents must purchase a license in order to trap nongame wildlife. Non-target Capture (CR)

You have to but we don't.

Good shootin' young lady.

Dang, I wish she could have found the Badger.

I'll have to look to make sure but I'm pretty sure in Wyoming badgers are furbearers.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.
