Anyone using shotgun rifled slugs for BIG game like moose, griz, elk???
Some of these things are really powerful. thinking out to 125 yds. thinking slugs like the Brenneke Black Magic, with 602 grains and 1500 fps.

All about accuracy. Inside 150, everything short of big bears will drop quick. I’ve watched a bunch of videos on the Brenneke slugs. I have yet to see any that were accurate. Smooth bore with a foster slug or rifled slug beats them every time. It’s funny how everyone is crazed with a bigger, faster, cooler whatnot and none outperform just an old fashioned round nosed hunk of lead. Inside 25, those fancy solid copper slugs are unstable and rip through just about anything. Then again, never heard a bear to wear class 3 body armor with a plate carrier. If you drop a 1 1/2 Oz slug through the ribs of anything, it’s gonna die. So after much use in close over the years I would just say that any offering that is accurate is more the. Adequate for anything in the 50 states including bruins In close.

I was asking for a buddy, who seems to be having a large brown stay dead with his '06 and 165 gr bullets.
In 1964 I bought a 10 pack of brenneke slugs (the ones with the wad bolted to the lead). They were told in magazines to be super accurate. They grouped so bad they coudn't beused for deer. Maybe they have improved???? WE have a good amount of places that only shotguns are allowed. I have smooth barrel, both brothers have rifled barrels. Using foster green/yellow box I group as tight as their rifled barrels with expensive sabat slugs. But I wonder if the new Brennek slugs are accurate enough for 100 yard shots??????

All about tolerances with them. The copper solids like the Brenneke are a tad smaller then bore as they can be fired through a choked barrel and are designed for fully rifled “ tight” barrels. As with everything rifled, all about tolerances.

I shoot full rifled lead slugs through an extra full choke with great ease and out standing accuracy.
Up in AK they either use a 375 or 12 gauge as defense back up rounds.

Yea, the park service uses the Black Maagic as a DEFENSE load. these are at short distance where accuracy doesn't matter. But I was thinking of them as a possible hunting load?
