Being half Irish, I celebrate St Pattie's day....food and drink.

Invited favorite daughter and her companion to dinner today.  Wife is vacationing in Florida so she is on her own.

Starting cooking now, about 4.5 hours.  Cornedbeef and cabage, with onions, carrots, potatoes, rudabaga.  Horseraddissh, and mustard sauce.  Brown bread.  Ginness Stout.  And green Pizzelles.

haaving The Irish Disease, I've dyed some potatoe vodka green!

Ireland is a cool growing season, and a long cold winter...so root crops grow good and keep long.  So they eat lots of roots.

Also should say that corned beef and cabbage isn't really an Irish dish;  it was invented in USA by immigrants.

more eaten in Ireland is  Colcannon Potatoes: an Irish mashed potato recipe with mixed with greens and scallions and LOTS of butter and cream.  A little too ricch for my aging stomach.

Green food dye can also be added to the beer.  All the local pubs here have green beer on St Patrick's day.  Locally they are ignoring the covid hoax laws and parading.

That sounds great Bear.

It reminds me of a dinner at a place in central Montana.

The food was good and the company was better.

Well, it came out FANTASTIC.  Everything was cook perfectly and on time for when D & F arrived.

Have a weeks worth of cabbage left over.  But cooking seems to work better when done in a larger quanity.

Ruben sandwiches for lunch today.  Corned beef on toasted rye, with sourkraut, swiss cheese, thousand island dressing...then all grilled with a butter coating in the George forman!

I'm glad it went well.
We will do ours on Wednesday evening.
The left overs are as good as the meal.
I have made homemade rye but never had it come out as good as I can buy.
When I worked at the bakery we made BLACK rye, not pumpernickel, it was great. We also made an out standing Caraway rye snack loaf that I wish I could find commercially.Big smile

When I was a kid, we had local Bake shops.  They had Caraway Rye bread, loved chewing on those seeds.
