ruffed grouse, Where are they.

Well it is grouse season here.  there are none.

If I flushed one, I'd never shoot at it.

Must be combo action of disease, logging changes, and 'otes.  Just don't know!

But it ain't hunting season without a grouse flush, even if you are hunting deer.

The a mid altitude bird here, not many around.
The sharptail and sage grouse are on a BIG up swing.
I have not been in the mountains so I don't know about the spruce blue or franklins.

Thanks jsg.  got scheduled to put my boat into a limestone mine for the winter.  cutting it close on time, as it hasn't been water drained.

let me know how many flushes you get on partridges (not the toilet).

Evidently the Sage Grouse and Sharptail Grouse are on the upswing here too.

I've had my daughter and grandaughter out hunting antelope and I think we've seen as many birds as we've seen antelope.

That's really unusual for this area. Usually we see more antelope than you see jack rabbits in west Texas.

Someone suggested that west Niles disease killed off all the grouse.

WN is definitely hurting the bat population, hadn't heard of the grouse. Never saw a grouse eat a mosquito though....maybe....

I think the bugs bite the birds.

There are a few around here. Lots of logging going on, but the state could help by doing some serious cutting. I always have a handful here on the old homestead. They get your attention when still hunting on a quiet morning!
