Granddaughter and I have been shooting all summer with the rifle she uses for deer hunting. Full sized deer target 150 yards.
CV youth stock 7.69x39 Redfield scope custom ( Short) sticks. We shot 100 shells over the summer. Today she shot one more... 188 yards , in the pocket through the heart and out the off side shoulder. It did not take a step, DRT! It was not to hard a stock but it was the third hunt we put on. Spotted them at 250 , to far for her and the gun. Went west but could not get in under 200 yards, back then to the east. cut alfalfa field a few rolling high spots but if we got on our hands and knees apparently they could not see us. We got to 150 and could set up. The buck stood and started to walk away and behind some brush. She held tough and waited for it to come out. He did but at 188 yards. I asked if she was good with that and she though it was a good shot. I said your behind the scope if you like it take it. Very shortly she did, Bang, thud, kerplop. 9:38 she was finished for the year. VERY proud Papa... #2 One 4x4 with eye guard whitetail last year One big fat 4x4 mule deer. What's next? To me this one felt a little more special.
Last year's was so easy and anticlimactic it felt kind of like " beginners luck". This one we had to do some work. First just to make sure it was NOT beginners luck we shot all summer, special times on there own. We did some stocks before pay dirt, they did not work out. The the stock we did do we needed to do right to get a shot SHE thought she could do. She carried her gun and sticks, set up the shot then waited to get the RIGHT shot. It felt SOOOO good to see her work it out... Edited by d4570 - 16 October 2020 at 13:02 |
