Had No idea what a Super 66 Ithaca is then looked it up and find it is a lever action single shot & certainly ok for upland birds but there is nothing like a good double or over/under for bird upland bird hunting.

It has a reach! Only have to hit em once right? Even on doubles I don't have any issue other then my lead. Biggest issue is letting them fly far enough to not be a pink mist. I used to use a single 20ga. topper but I lost that one long ago with a redheaded wife. I usually drag out the 870 for grouse but considering the species, the old single does fine and weighs about half. Besides, it levels off better then any double I've ever shot. Incredible balance. Done the O/U's and the side by sides. Even had some twin triggers in there. If the single doesn't do it then the 870 comes out.

Boy was up last night with the pup. It's an active and loving pup that doesn't move without a command. He took it out last weekend and it didn't go quite as hoped, but without having seasoned dogs to learn from complaining is a silly thing. We go in the morning and to be honest for me it's just a good morning to walk the gun, enjoy the surrounds, and best of all, watch my boy get aggravated! The boy paid for the birds and I hope he cleans em up after a few flushes. I'm in no rush to shoulder the gun when thats not what this is all about. It seems this is a double duty. Wife has a sense that this is also a meet and greet with the potential F-I-L to be....not sure if thats the plan but reading between the lines.......I thought he had sense enough to run! Perhaps he will get hogtied. Just glad thats not the hunting I'm looking for anymore. Anniversary was today, it's a good run.

Well, no meet and greet. Glad for it though. The air was crisp with a heavy dew and ground fog lifting in the morning sun. Just one of those days when the cosmic tumblers grace you. Had a few birds in tow but the dog is young and the sound of the flush startles her. Not gun shy at all, just the flush. We tried though quite a few of the tricks but she wanted nothing to do with the birds. Kyle was disappointed, but I'm supportive and have the years under the belt to be patient. Something about Rome and bricks comes to mind but regardless of never shouldering the other morning, I have no complaints. She's a good dog with outstanding temperament. Time and measured training will either bring her around or  show she just isn't a hunter. I think either way, she is a great pup and he should just be happy to be out with his little furry friend on days like that. Back at the camp, others had a good day of winging and wings were offered up. With a little disappointment came a lining of hope. Tied a couple wings to her "duck" toy and she was suddenly interested. Need a few more hours in the field with this one to see how much interest is there and what can be built on....for her and him. Always a learning curve for them both. Keep you guys posted.
