200yd zero works well. I've used 100yd and 300yd before. I found no disadvantage, using 200, over 100 and 300yd zero requires you to hold under, on close tight shots, such as neck or head shot.

Interesting seems 200 yards is the most popular distance.

Kind of interesting... I do things a little differently. I sight all my guns in for Maximum Point Blank (MPB) range for a 8 inch kill zone. That means the bullet never rises or drops more than 4 inches from the line of sight. The reason is that an average deer has a least a 8 inch kill zone. For every gun MPB is different. For most normal guns that translates to a zero of about 250 yards give or take a little. For less flat shooting guns it may be 200 for really fast ones it may be 300. The MPB is the distance that the bullet is 4 inches below the line of sight again for most guns that is 275-300 yards so that means you can hold dead on the center of a kill zone of a deer out to that distance. So with a average gun I do not need to worry about distance as long as it is less than about 300 yards I just hold dead on and shoot. This works very well as 95% of my shots are less than 300 yards.

That is the idea for sure. Ranges here are much shorter. 200 is my max range without a solid rest. The 7's all have close to my 3" vertical at 200 so It's dead on for even turkey heads to there. The 375's are at 100 with little hold out to 400 if it was at all necessary....can't imagine why though. The 308 however has big glass that the minimum range setting is at 200 and goes to 1400. It's a paper puncher and I have never even tried it close. I would imagine with the big rings, it probable shoots quite high in close, but I really haven't ever given it a thought.
