For years I've been a sit type guy. I know where the trails are from hunting an area for 40+ years. But the Whitetail populations are down and changing, so are the forests.
Thinking I might have to so more 'still hunting'; aka walking very slowly. How do you hunt?

Lota times we walk out in the butt dark find a good over look and sit.
More of a "Spot and stalk". On the few occasions we will have tripped across a ''hot spot" ,make a way point and return another day and do some kind of "Blind" hunt. BUT after an hour or two with out any action we get an attack of A.D.D. and have to get out and "Make something happen" It is like driving pins in my dick to sit in the boat with 100 decoys out in front of you and only see a few golden eagles in a dawn to dusk day.

Here a tactic was deer drives, sitting, walk/stalk but that was long ago....now no hunters anymore just shooters over BAIT piles with gunners (not hunters) sitting in tree stands mostly over the BAIT piles waiting to KILL a Tame, Trained, Corn Fed deer vs Hunting for a deer to shoot. The deer are more nocturnal now then ever before as a result of baiting and finding a killer waiting at bait pile in daylight....hence nocturnal. The deer baiting is a spill over from when bowhunters started the trend long time ago here.....now it is the WAY for the current crop of deer shooters....none even know the thrill of tracking a deer anymore nor even know how to find bedding/dining areas for the deer. They can't HUNT! rant over

Baiting sure does ruin the 'experience' of the hunt.
I've seen baiting change the deer...but it also changes the hunters profoundly.

Spot and stalk when the weather is wet or snowy, otherwise to noisy to move much. I haven't found a better way to sleep then a sunny late fall day or early winter afternoon......scratch that, when my kids were small and would fall asleep on me beats it, but those days are pretty much over now so I'll take what I can get.
