A few years back CB and I were doing gun shop/ gun show routes; found a kitchen sporter Krag 30-40 turn bolt gun.

Now, 4+ years latter, it is ready for test run.

loading 190 grain extra hard cast bullets in front of RL-7  20 grains.  will sight in and test accuracy tomorrow.

Want to be my NY state 90 yards whitetail rifle.

action is slick as cat s--t.

That's awesome.

It's always good to see a classic rifle get to make a hunting trip.

Stock needed some finishing and bedding..also took a good bit of wood off the foreend.  some bolt polishing.

new side mountbase and rings.

load developement has been a disaster.  Groups about 6 inches at 50 yards with cast.  So I took some of the same cast loads to fire in my ruger single shot....    .5 inches at 50 yards.  so the problem is in the bolt krag, not my reloads.

Fall hunting/traveling season stopped  the rifle check-out.

Plan: check scope screws
if screws tight, remove new scope and put old reliable Leupold on and re fire.
if no better grouping re crown muzzle.,

Somewhere inhere could be a new barrel??????   E W Shaw?

Sounds like a good project to have going........my old Krag shoots "minute-of-deer" with jacketed reloads.Smile Never tried any cast boolets in it. Brownells sells the "things" necessary to recrown a bbl.
I have one E.R. Sharw bbl from the early 1970's and it is also good for at least "minute-of-deer"....maybe better. Still the iron sights and they are pretty hard to see anymore.
Don't forget the scope mount screws too!
