I seem to remember that it has been about 5 years since Winchester introduced this new and different rimfire round. In that time I've not shot one nor even seen one.
Any body have firing experience with this round.

Since it's performance is slightly less than 17Hornet and ammo price is high, I haven't really considered it. It took me a decade to get a 17HMR, so it's not out of question, I'll have 17 and 20 Fireballs first.

During MYGAWDS I shot a lot of PDs with my son's 17HMR. It was impressive out to 150-175 yds. was thinking the 17 WSM would move that out to 250 yds?
It will be difficult to beat my 222 Remington for those 'dogs. Just wondered as you don't seem to hear much about the 17 WSM in the last 3 years. Maybe the lack of available rifles is the problem? Can't use a 22 mag action.

I think your .222 Remington is about as good as it gets for prairie dogs. I have seen you make some very impressive shots with that rifle.
'cides that, I would hate to end up with a rifle that you couldn't get ammo for. Wing master

All things considered, I really don't see a strong enough allure to keep it around. Being rimfire will make it even harder to justify purely for the loadability. |

Since you like CZs, I believe they may offer #527 in 17Hornet, in both walking around and bench weight versions.

I ended up with two boxes of .17WSM that someone bought by mistake, thought they were HMR's. No returns on ammo so now I have them. I've bought guns before just because I've had a box of ammo, but I don't think it will happen this time.

Well maybe you could swap it for 204 ammo. I almost had a 204, but gave it to DeadDog!
