I've been running LT235/85 R16 10ply caps on my 96 F250 diesel, for several years, after my trip with 9.5ft cabover camper, @ 85mph, I just don't trust them anymore. Tires are rated @3K or 12K GTVW rating, I'm running 11K loaded. I'm looking at LT285/75 R16 10ply, with 3,750lbs or 15K GTVW rating, truck'll still be heavy, but I'll feel better, not running worn out caps.

I would prefer going US made, Cooper's about last mfg here. Anyone run Cooper Discoverer A/T3 on a heavier truck or in snow? They have pretty decent reviews, but not as good as
Kumho Road Venture AT51, but they're made in Vietnam, not US and $50 tire cheaper? ($550 set VS $750 set)

Is it OK to get the import or spend the extra on US made?

I prefer to buy American made.

In this case, I think I would go with the lower priced better reviewed tire.

Just my opinion.

Tough to find any USA made tires any longer.  they will get MUCH better mileage and pay for the diference PLUS.

I get 80K miles on USA tires on my SUV...but foreign made are 40K at best.

I've run foreign made tires from China, Viet nam, peru, japan, brazil, and italy.  lots of problem beside wearing out; leaks, poor sealing, etc.      Canada are 2nd best tire manufacture country.

Cooper Discoverer A/T3 = A1+!
I have run Cooper Discoverer  for YEARS.
The bread company ran them on our bread wagons too.
Good traction ,good mileage, few problems.
I was just talking with My tire guy and there is a new tire
I don't remember the # or name , but a cooper and it is a DEEP Mud/Snow tread that is quite on the highway. He has only been able to get a few sets in and sold ( $300 each) and has not had much
Feed back from the people that are running them.
You cant go wrong with a Cooper.

I had a set of Cooper studded winter tires, they worked well, except they did wear pretty fast. I don't expect to get 50K out of tires, 30K is most often the case. I run 6,500 empty and just over 10K loaded, diesels tend to be hard on tires, between the rear tire slippage and the weight, up front, I seldom get half advertised mileage.

A good number of the reviews on A/T3s, say they're not very good on ice. Between the roads not being plowed and the snot, they spray on them, we have about three months of mostly snow packed and ice roads.

D I knew you either ran Cooper or Goodrich, I couldn't remember which, so I hoped you'd jump in.

Cooper's aren't on sale right now, so I think, I'll try to find them on sale, they had $100 rebate on set, last fall, maybe they'll run it again.

I've dealt with Goodrich recalls couple times, I don't really trust them. They're either real good about issuing recalls, when they have problem, or they just get caught a lot.
