We picked up 5000 feet of mule tape used . Ever used it? Neat stuff . That is not quite a mile. We had some snatch blocks we used on fence post to help guide the tape retrieval. Hooked it to the trailer hitch and pulled in my deer with the truck and the game cart/sled. It took longer to wind it back up on to the spool then to drag out the deer. Note to self , have two walkie talkies for communication or run the whole way to keep up to the truck.... |

I've used the yellow pull rope, that preceded pull tape. I only used it to get them out of coulees to top and used cart from there. I still have few hundred feet and blocks in truck.

First I ever heard of that kind of "pulling" tape..sounds like neat stuff....pretty neat way you dun that with block on post and then tied to truck and just drove away?????? ya, I"d think radios would be good to have there. TOO many TREES/Brush etc where we hunt to use any kind of winch system....no big open areas a mile long either. A 10ft pull rope would be too long most times.
Nice pics again and nice BUCK! |

D, I've been using a number of snatch blocks and 1/4 inch polyprop ski line for an assisted drag out. This really limits me to 150 yards from the road.
Like IBD, never heard of the Mule tape; I thought you 'mule' in title was about your Mule deer!!!! I've been reading up on the tape. I have a deer cart like yours and have never used it with my poly rope system, just ground dragging. I also have an electric winch that mounts on my bumper hitch. Thinking (smell something burning?) if I strip the cable off the winch (3.5" drum), I could probably put 1500 foot of Mule tape! then duplicate your drag just using the electric winch. Like IBD I hunt hilly/wooded areas. If I restrict myself to hunting gas and power lines, only a few snatch blocks would be needed. What you think? How much stretch is there in Mule tape? Where did you get the wide/tape snatch blocks? How tough is the mule tape to respool? does it take a wacky set/tangle? Edited by BEAR - 31 October 2017 at 09:02 |

Bear you can buy synthetic "rope" to replace the steel cable on your winch which is rated for about same tensile strength and designed to pull same as cable, just don't get all kinked up like cable when wound poorly. About the same length as the steel cable able you now have I'd guess.
type this ....synthetic line for winches....into a search engine for lots of info on synthetic winch line and pros and cons too. Edited by Irish Bird Dog - 31 October 2017 at 18:04 |

Thee tape is extremely strong for its size. The tape spools 1000ft in the same space as 100 thin nylon rope.
I now have 100+ yards of rope and pull it with my car using a snatch block. Thinking I could use the winch IF the winch will spool 1000+ foot with the tape?
