I was talking to a guy, and if I remember right, he killed 10,000 PDs, in a year, in the city limits of a Utah town.
AND, he did it w/an air rifle. Not your everyday air rifle, but one of those that runs on an air tank. He'll drive out and shoot out the window of his PU (I assume legal in UT). He did new apartment complexes, golf courses and etc...the landowners are happy to let him control their vermin. Now, I am getting to your connection....he told me that his combo has no recoil and that @ 100 yards you can see the pellet come out of the PD (he isn't using a $30 Tasco). His scope is a tactical model w/a mil-dot reticle (he knows the range). So, if he can do it, and you follow his lead (know the range and hold-over), then you can too. I wouldn't think that you want HPs. I'm thinking that you should be using match ammo. |

My thoughts also Wing.
Also I shoot PDs slow, just camp on a chair with a tripod and pick my targets. Barrel never heats up, and dogs don't get smart to me. |

I was thinking the same thing the last time I went out.
I was getting some good hits with a .243 at 200 yards and a little more. I missed several shots at 30 to 50 yards. Next time I go out I was planning on taking my 10-22. If it will kill a gopher it should kill a prairie dog. Wing master |

Boy , it would NOT be my first choice.
I have had many crawl into there hole, with a 223 and 22/250... AND after the first shot I'm betting you would never get another 125 yard shot. |

Usually use a 22-250, 243, or 222 for PDs.
But on gophers I was getting pretty good kills on those little guys out to about 100+ yards. Is a 22 Long Rifle with 40 grain hollow point good for PDs out to 125 or so? Really don't like to cripple and see them crawl into hole. |
