Never saw a 'need' for a 1911. In 1963, I had one
bought from gov't in 45 acp ($19). I Shot it for a few
years and sold it down the river.

Never felt it was target shooter, except in 45 1911
class. Worthless for hunting or CCW. Great for a
military person who doesn't need a rifle!

BUT, just saw a new Rock Island M1911-A1 GI .38 Super
Full-Size Pistol with 5" barrel.

The 38 super is sort of a rimless 357 mag.   might be
more accurate than the 45acp? Price is $439 new.

38 Super 1911 are a premium firearm for Mexican drug
people!

I equate them to the 10mm.

They are the hot round of the diameter.

They use the same case as the .38 acp/ 38 auto. Cartridge of the 1903
Colt and others. The Super will peel open an auto after a few rounds.

Brass or loaded ammo is not so easy to find. Excellent cartridge not
sure why it never caught on other than some IDPA matches? Lots of
bark and recoil are part of it. If you don't shoot it hot you might as well
shoot 9mm.

Endeavor to persevere.

I have always wanted a 1911 in .38 Super. The only one I
have ever seen in person was either chrome or nickel. It
was too shiney for me but a matte blued or Parkerized one
would be great.

BEAR;

To expand on DD's point, if I were interested in one, it
wouldn't be from that manufacturer. I'd look at Colt, S&W,
or Dan Wesson. Yeah, any of the three will be far more
expensive. OTOH, they'll be far more reliable and have a
far better warranty should you need it.

If I was to get one, it'd be in long slide and probably 10mm. The main reason 38 super is popular in Mexico, firearms chamber in military round are prohibited and they do enforce their firearms law.

38 super was popular, in days of car bandits, because they'd penetrate a car better. They had some following in IPSC, because they could make major and have increased capacity over 45. http://www.luckygunner.com/lounge/38-super/

I checked into getting one before and depending on how they're chambered, they can have accuracy issues.
