My truck gun a Smith m39 is getting too big for out of
state CCW.

So I took the plunge and bought a 380. super light,
super small; but feels good in my hand. Diamondback 380
DA.

Buffalo Bore .380 +p is one of the few viable ccw rounds for the .380.

How does it shoot? Why not the 9mm?

For 380, Hornady Critical Defense, seemed to both feed and function well and because it's not HP, you don't have worry about plugged HP nor legal issues in places, where HP is illegal.

I went to get LCP II to replace, my LCP my daughter ended up with, but I ended up getting Taurus PT111 instead.

Maybe if I get G42, she'll like it better and I can get my LCP back?

At least in Florida you only have t-shirts and shorts not Carhartt jackets
and blue jeans to penetrate.

I like it. At 8.8 ounces I am thinking you won't even know
it's there.

What kind of holster are you going to carry it in?

Bought it on line sending it to LGS in north. But racked
it a few times and shot some. My hands are poor, and this
racks easy.

Going to buy some ammo down here so recommendations are
great. thanks.

Holster, going with a fake cell-phone case. magnets hold
it closed. thoughts???

I have seen them and have friend who on occasion uses Bulldog case. It's only slightly less obvious than open carry. Nobody carries that big of phone on belt. I've heard one that combines phone case on belt, with IWB behind it, is worthless to draw from and dangerous to reholster.

I have one of these for LCP and it disappears in front or back pocket.
pocket holster

I also have similar IWB, you can forget it's there.
IWB

I believe this would fit diamondback.

I looked at DeSantis pocket holster. It fits inside your
pocket. those types always bite my inner thigh when I sit
down.

thinking a belt clip "looking like a cell phone case'.
Saw Sneaky Pete but will really need to try one on the
actual pistol and my belt. When I carry on my hip, it is
comfortable to sit in a car.

All suggestions are appreciated, probably be the last
holster I'll be buying.

Since you don't care for pocket holster, here's couple more easily concealed choices.

http://ads.midwayusa.com/product/2375129181/desantis-pocket- tuk-inside-the-waistband-or-pocket-holster-diamondback-db380 -db9-leather-brown

http://ads.midwayusa.com/product/516183/desantis-quick-snap- outside-the-waistband-holster-right-hand-diamondback-db9-lea ther-black

I have several of the Alien gear, cloak tuck 3.0 IWB and they're very comfortable. There's wet suit material against skin, behind holster, less irritating to skin. They also offer leather backer, if you prefer it.

I carry a S&W Shield at work. I carry it in a Lobo Gun
Leather paddle holster. It's a bigger gun than yours and
it totally dissapears under a sweatshirt. I could
probably carry it under an untucked tee shirt, but I'm
not too crazy about the idea of some old lady customer
seeing it while I am guiding her into the car wash.

In the summer I carry a model 60 S&W (J frame). It's in
a inside the waistband holster I got from The Holster
Store. It is very well hidden under an untucked tee
shirt and very comfortable. Not as comfortable as the
shield outside the waistband.

I like carrying a revolver when I'm on the road.

Finally shipped. Not sure I like the waiting of this
on-line stuff!!!!

On ammo, thinking I have 3 choices on bullet weight:90,
95, 100 grains.

Going to get a box so i can stop and shoot on the way
home from LGS.

Both of the ammo you guys recommended are 90
grains....is that the best way to go????

Before 1975 when CCI came out with the Stinger the way to get
explosive terminal performance out of a .22 was to snip the rounded
part off with a side cutter and run a file on the edges so it would feed.
The effect on full soda cans or gophers was tremendous compared to
regular rounds.

The .380 suffers from not enough barrel length or powder capacity to
get the violent upset that homemade or Stinger rounds can do. Then
you look at the projectiles. Trying to get a bullet to expand at 800fps is
extremely difficult. The Stinger is twice as fast. If the bullet doesn't
expand it is basically a kids size wooden arrow without any fletching or
broad head. It will penetrate a soft medium quite well unless it hits
something hard to deflect it but it normally passes through without
imparting much of its energy.

So if you glean anything from this- lite and fast and expandable are
what you are looking for in .380 ammo.

Research the 38 S&W's performance during the Philippine/American
conflict of 1898-1902 for further insight.

Interesting thoughts "...it normally passes through
without imparting much of its energy."

Do you think a FMJ 380 would pass thru a human chest
cavity?

I think you will find the 95gr fmj to be nearly a round ball almost as wide
as it is tall. Basically a single pellet of a 00 buck but moving 350 per
second slower than a 12ga.

While I don't believe ballistic gelatin to be a direct replacement for living
tissue it does have the ability to show comparisons between different
ammunition. Many videos are out there for most any brand or caliber
you can think of.

I've used milk and other water filled jugs full of water, wet sheet rock,
asphalt shingles over cardboard etc. Used to use wet phone books but
they aren't big enough anymore.

My experience with the fmj's is lack of upset. My anology is like
shooting a gallon jug of water at 40 yds with a standard velocity .22.
You may shoot it 3-4 times before you notice it move because enough
water has drained out. Shoot it at 15 yards with a Stinger and their is no
mistaking a hit.

Do I think a fmj would pass through a chest cavity? Yes

What percent of the time? No idea. Hit a substantial bone and all bets
are off. Catch a rib at an angle and it's likely to follow the cage around
and exit out the back.

I was out the other day picking up bullets from melted snow banks that I
shoot at all winter. Most are pristine and could be loaded and shot
again. You would be surprised how little snow it takes to stop a bullet.

Critical defense, tested in Taurus 738 TCP, as small or smaller than diamondback pistol.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5TJSUADOwA

Final test for .380, best for defense test.

HTP my preferred bullet in 9mm and 45, did very well.

I personally prefer expansion, I don't expect 380 to meet FBI protocol. I may change back to HTP, from FTX, though it expanded well, for me. Reviewer said it expanded too much for him?

Different video, same ammo
