That is true. I have not had a chance to take anything with it yet. Every time I think I am ready I kill the scope... One of these day it will actually kill something besides the scope...

Had one of the first S&W 500 revolvers serial number around 180.

It took exactly one shot to shatter the red dot I put on it.

Endeavor to persevere.

Bear that is exactly the one I have. It is the shortest, lightest "long" gun I have. It is a joy to carry around because of its weight and size but it kicks pretty good for a handgun cartridge.

For years I hunted mostly with a pistol. with eyes
getting bad; I've sort of switched to a rifle.

50 cal rifles does sound interesting; and the new Encore
in 50 would be about the same as converting a t/c
contender to 45-70.

I might have to consider using a pistol; would add to the
adventure!

Been thinking about Sam's recommendations, too much time
waiting for wild boar!

Regarding loading fast for a road shooting; if a bolt
gun is carried in hand in the shotgun seat, can't a
round be loaded fast? maybe as fast as any type of
firearm!

Maybe the same with a lever gun carried open with a
shell in hand.

Break action rifles, like my double or a T/C single shot
might be the slowest.

I usually keep the magazine of my bolt gun loaded with the
chamber empty while driving. Just cycle the bolt and it's
ready to go.

Maybe that's not legal in the great North East?

I kinda wondered about that.

I think that might be the Wyoming way too. although it's
legal to carry a rifle in a vehicle with the chamber
loaded, I don't know anyone that does.

I always carry rifle with chamber loaded, not any less safe, than carrying pistol, with loaded chamber. Unsafe gun handling, with empty chamber, is still unsafe, likewise, safe gun handling, with known condition firearm, is still safe.

Right on,

Three safeties on all my rifles: 1st-my brain; 2nd the
wing safety; and 3rd an empty chamber.

The break open action of the encore is surprising fast to load if you have a round in your hand. A couple fingers from your shooting hand reaches the break lever, the action opens on its owe and you drop in the shell and snap it closed and had the gun it coming up to your shoulder you thumb the hammer back. With a little practice the whole process will take maybe 2 to 3 seconds. A bolt or lever gun might be a little faster but not by enough to make any practical difference.

Always plan on using my 35 Whelen if I ever get a ME moose tag...and don't get caught with a single round even in the magazine when your rifle is in a vehicle, or on your 4 wheeler. You can loose your gun, license and vehicle.

Same in most states I hunt in Maple.

when you are raised with one set of regulations, you tend
to keep those same regs the rest of your life.
