looked at some infrared night vision rifle scopes made by
Pulsar. Very impressive. for 'otes at nigh would be great. i think Dale was looking at one. Good usable one was $2990 with lots of extras. $3k buys a lot of bullets and powder! |

These from ATN are almost affordable, adding upgraded IR Illuminator, is supposed to make it more useful.

The Pulsar I was looking thru was a FLIR system. It was
very impressive. thinking how great it would be and the ability to easily see a 'hot' coyote on those cold sub-zero montana nights. These are scopes and have crosshairs. Battery last about 6 hours (less in extreme cold); but they have auxiliary batteries that just plug in. Costs were high; not sure I'd use it enough to make it worthwhile expenditure. Because it is looking for body heat you can actually see thru vegetation. |

All I can remember about the night coyote hunting here in
Maine is the shivering between the shoulder blades that would not stop. No matter what you wear, if you sit still for 1 1/2 hours in sub zero temperatures you are going to get cold. That was before the chem heating pads in the days of the Moon Boots. But Bear, go for it man. You might not want to in 3 years or so. Iron men only, hunt at -32 F. Edited by samchap |

Be careful what you decide to not like. Your wife may wear one. Your son may ride one. Your daughter may bring one home. You may have to have one someday. |
