xmas is here and folks are looking for gifts. I'd like
a small camp stove, single burner. Just enough to heat
coffee water or instant meal. Not really backpacking
light, those days are just memories.

Any thoughts/brands models?

gas? propane, butane???

Coleman 502 or 508. Ilike the 502 better. It is a little
sturdier built.

But I like burning gasoline.

It's all gasoline now. What we used to call "White gas" is what we call unleaded

Don't quote me on any of this, but I think "white gas" made as a fuel for lanterns and stoves is naptha, which I don't think is a product refined from oil like gasoline, but is made from coal oil.

The term "white gas" might sometimes be incorrectly applied to what is called "white gasoline," which is basically gasoline without any additives (especially lead).
The reason for the 2nd Amendment is so that we can keep all the others.

Thanks Cascade.

The new Coleman lanterns are marked that they will run
on unleaded gasoline. I'm not sure if the old ones will
work with unleaded.

I only have old ones. I like old stuff.

D you are a wonder. I asked about a s,all tent, and you
suggested 'Suburban camping", great idea so I built a
small bed area in my Explorer.

Now I ask for a small stove and you give great advise on
heating meals I've never seen. "who needs a Freaking
stove". Still the thought of the smell of coffee
cooking on a stove is often the only motive to get my
cold ass out of a warm sleeping bag!

thanks.

any of the new stoves work well. I like the ones that you use "white gas" because the ones that use the canister gas can have issues when it is cold and the fuel in the canister is way more expensive.

LP or fuel canisters can be made to work after they freeze up by pissing
on them. Perhaps that would generate some fumes?

I'm wondering how many other items, or even people, that same technique might work on.

I carry coleman two burner propane stove behind seat, in truck, just in case. I've used it to heat diesel engine, when it's too cold to start, (40 below and while output was lower, it still worked), along with cooking on.

They also make low profile one burner stove, that's much more stabile than tank top ones.

Liquid gas ones are nice for ease of use, but cost is much more and like you said they can leak.

Santa came through. he brought me a Camp Chef Stryker
100, Isobutane-canister style. Tested it and it folds
small into pot, and boils 2 cups of water in 90 seconds
(1.5 minutes).

I hope that 90 minutes is typo, a candle would be almost that fast.
