Yeah, that's a great movie! Well I took the paraphenalia out to the range in the backyard this morning to do the sight-in & test. Got run off by the deerflies. So I moved it inside the shelterbelt & tried again. I fussed & budgeted & finally decided that 10 yards was the better proposition to start at. Now I can hold 4 inches at 10 yards, but the shooting conditions were less than ideal for a number of reasons. 1. The deerflies were only half as bad, but still horrible. 2. Shooting off the bed of the pickup doesn't work as well as a dedicated shooting bench. 3. Did I mention the F!!!!!!!!KING flies!!!!!!! 4. The trigger on the S&W isn't as nice as I useta thought it was. All-in-all though, I'm encouraged. I had taken the Marlin .22 rifle with open sights along to have a comparison, but that idea died stillborn. Id'a been better off with a shotgun for the cannot-be-damned-enough flies! 900F P.S. Testing will continue Edited by CB900F |

Well, yesterday afternoon, it were "interesting" around here. First the Fed-Ex truck pulled in, and I was not expecting to see him. Anyway, he delivered to me a plain brown envelope. As nobody gets porn that way anymore, I was confused! Then I saw the label was from CZ USA. And I was still a bit confused. However, as the Fed-Ex tried to pull out, Big Brown pulled in! At speed. There was an interesting moment or two there as I do believe both drivers were looking at their computer tablets instead of my driveway. Right-of-ways almost converged. Entertaining from my point of view, wish I'd had a lawn chair and a beer. After all the weaving and adrenaline was accomplished, Big Brown delivered to me a Brownell's package that I had thought was coming via USPS. Fed-Ex's envelope was a part from CZ that I was told not to expect until this coming October! Ordered earlier this month & had been informed it had to come from the mother country in Europe. UPS delivered the rail and dot sight. Therefore, I spent an hour in the man cave assembling and completing various gun projects. This morning I'm going to go out & see how this new-fangled hi-tech red dot affair works. I will say that the Weigand rail went onto the gun very easily. The sight went on the rail, and that whole little assembly chore took maybe 20 minutes. Almost boringly easy. 900F Edited by CB900F |

let us know just how it works for you. iron sights are
really not so easy on some old eyes...I have used red dot sights for years on my bullseye guns...only way to stay in the game with the youngsters. |

No, not a new gun. However, a couple of accessories to allow me to shoot a gun I like. As I've matured a bit, I've noticed that my eyes don't behave as they did when I was but a spratling. Which is to say that iron sights aren't of much use to me anymore. Trouble is, I've got some handguns that I really like to shoot, but accuracy is a thing of the past. So I decided to do some research & (almost literally) see what I could find out to rectify the situation. I didn't want to spend a ton of money leaping into unknown waters though. This would be my first venture into the dot/holo pistol sight world. What I've wound up ordering is the Weigand adapter rail for S&W K&L framed guns and a Bushnell TRS-25 red-dot sight. That came to a bit over a hundred bucks. We shall see how it all works out on the Smith 617/10 I'm gonna put the rig on. If I can reliably hit a 4" circle at 25 yards, I think I'll be happy. The next question is: How am I going to carry it? I'm thinking that a normal belt holster isn't gonna cut it. More research needed. 900F |
