Today's Photograph.... Get Your Weapons (Bobby W)
Bible Study Verse Genesis 27:3 Take your [hunting] gear, your quiver and bow, and go out in the field to hunt some game for me. (HCSB)
Thoughts WOW! What man wouldnt like that assignment?
After Cowboy Church Sunday morning a new friend, Phoenix veteran police officer Jim Delung, walks up and gives me a new folding, locking blade knife with the reference Genesis 27:3 engraved on the blade. WOW! What man doesnt like a gift like that? He has no idea the gratitude, the inspiration, and value that gift now holds.
There have always been the meat hunters. In Wyoming we still find evidences of arrow heads and cartridge brass from the first camp meat providers. Whether they were sent out to provide meat for a Calvary Unit, a wagon train, or a cattle drive, there have always been those skilled in tracking and marksmanship that were chosen to be camp meat providers.
Its in our DNA to hunt and pursue. It validates us as men or women. We get it from our FATHERS DNA. HE still hunts and pursues those of His that are lost. (Wes W)
Action Point Get your boat, pole, and go be fishers of men. Get your weapons and go be a hunter for mens souls. Get your camo, were sneakin into the enemys camp, and taking back what was stolen. Get your field glasses and camera, were about to provide people with a glimpse of the Living God. Read Philippians 2:15.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day People are not persuaded, they are attracted. We must learn to communicate by what and who we are, and less by what we say. Quiet computes to success in the field, maybe we can apply it to life?

Today's Photograph....Low Winter Tide (Will D)
Bible Study Verse Nehemiah 4:12-14 Then the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten times over, "Wherever you turn, they will attack us." Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows. After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, "Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes." (NIV)
George Washington's Birthday
Thoughts As fronts begin their push through the Gulf Coast, shrimp begin migrating from the surrounding marshes into nearby estuaries. Sea trout and redfish are in pursuit, forcing them to the surface wherein feeding gulls and terns reveal their whereabouts. However, as fronts grow stronger and more prevalent, shrimp are pushed out into the warm Gulf of Mexico and sport fish are left seeking other sources of food, primarily mullet. Gathered together in schools in the shallow grassy edges of the bay, mullet seek food and shallow water warmth. However strong north winds create extremely low tides and the protection the grassy edged shorelines offer them are lost - leaving them exposed to predators.
Jerusalem was in a desolate condition. Those who survived exile had returned to a city in ruin. Nehemiah learned of it and was moved by sadness and concern in his heart. Immediately he prayed. He fasted. God made allowable his return to Judea to rebuild the city walls and restore the people. Nehemiah, recognizing areas of exposure in the low areas of the walls, quickly placed people in those places - charging them to be fearless.
Many of us can look at our lives and recognize the areas of exposure to Satan. Sometimes we embrace or fail to let go of the very things which can lead to our destruction. We rationalize them. I can go there. I can do that. I'm a strong Christian. (Will D)
Action Point Are you involved with places, people, or things that could lead to your ruin? Perhaps you have some exposure to Satan. Rebuild and refocus. Re-center your life with Christ and seek fortification with Christian friends and family. Recognize the exposure in other people's lives too. With humility, avail yourself to them - heed the call of Nehemiah. Be ready to fight Satan and stand in the gap for their protection.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day As trophy sea trout and redfish stage in these low-water areas during winter, make it a priority to remain as quiet as possible - make long casts with lures that mimic injured mullet.

Today's Photograph.... Seems Presently Perfect To Me (Will D)
Bible Study Verse Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (NIV)
Thoughts In the late 1990's a lure was introduced that worked exceptionally well on sea trout and redfish. So well in fact, tackle stores were always sold out. As time passed, newer products became more popular and that particular bait, for whatever reason, seemed to just lose its effectiveness. Few anglers use them today. What was once a superior lure now collects dust on store's shelves.
Likewise, a book was published several years ago. It created great disdain and debate between the secular world and Christians. Spending weeks as a best seller, it was hastily followed by a movie version. Soon though the book and its notoriety faded from memory. (Will D)
Action Point Many worldly things try to lure us. They ebb and flood in and out of our Christian lives like the strong tides of spring. What are popular best-sellers one day, are gone the next.
However, God's Word is the ultimate best seller; no other book has out sold it. While some Bibles do collect dust on shelves, the author of Hebrews clearly points out a dust-busting fact; the Word is living and active. My elementary school English teacher called that the present perfect progressive tense - events or actions that have begun at some point in the past and continue through the present. Seems presently perfect to me.

Today's Photograph....The I-didn't-get-a-single-bite Trips (Will D)
Bible Study Verse Jonah 2:2 He said: "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry. (NIV)
Thoughts I think I'll start a bad trip internet forum. You know, opposite of the all the ones that post reports of the great trips. Pics of big horns and big fish will be deleted. Mine will just be about the ones that got away. The missed shots. The I-didn't-get-a-single-bite trips. Empty ice chests. (Will D)
Action Point No. No one wants to hear about the bad ones. Wouldn't get many hits. Yet that is usually the only thing we give God, our breakdowns, mess ups, failures, and faults. He receives them too - catching each and every tear.
But, where go our accomplishments? If we are not careful, we'll use pride like legs and ego like feet; desperately running ahead of disaster and despair.
Try the opposite. Delete the ego. Give God your pride. Pray to Him: ask him to take all that from you. Save the bad trips for my new forum.

Today's Photograph....My Mug Is Going To Be There One Day, So Will Yours. But, I'm Not Referring To The Outdoor Section (Will D)
Bible Study Verse Revelation 21:27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life. (NIV)
Thoughts Ahhh. The Thursday paper. If yours is like mine it has an outdoor section; yesterday's reports charging us for tomorrow's adventure. We hurriedly flip past destruction and despair. We might pause to read a headline of good news. Stocks, cartoons, and editorials? We'll check that stuff out later. Right now, we need the latest and greatest of the outdoors. A pic of a nice buck would be cool. (Will D)
Action Point My mug is going to be there one day, so will yours. But, I'm not referring to the outdoor section. It will be a one inch by one inch black and white shot of us in our Sunday best. Attached to it will be a hastily prepared resume of yours or my life. Read by some, skimmed by others, or maybe missed altogether.
Maybe you're reading these devotionals, because you've settled this whole salvation matter. Great! Maybe you're just checking out the pics or you are trying to figure this whole religion thing out.
Well, here is today's black and white headline: Jesus died on that cross for you. He did it once and did it for all. You just have to faithfully accept it. Doing so, your life will be changed. Most importantly, your name and your life will be written for God to read. Something tells me He doesn't skim.

Today's Photograph.... Geese (Suzanne S)
Bible Study Verse I Thessalonians 5:1-3 Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. (NIV)
Thoughts When I was a young waterfowl guide in the early 90s, still in college, I normally left the house by 4:45 am to make it to the ranch gate in time. It was a 30-minute drive, and I always looked forward to listening to Dr. David Reagan's, Christ in Prophecy, radio show that aired on 89.3 KSBJ in Houston at 5 am. As Dr. Reagan signed off, normally right as I arrived at the gate, he would say, "Look up, be watchful, for our redemption is drawing near."
Yogi Berra once said, "You can see a lot by looking."
As simplistic as that sounds, it is true. Look around. The signs of Jesus' coming are obvious. (Bink G)
Action Point As an outdoorsman, the signs of nature and weather naturally intrigue me; and, the Bible clearly spells out what nature will be like during the end times. "Labor pains," discussed in the above scripture, become more frequent and intensify closer to the day of birth. It has become obvious. Earthquakes and hurricanes have increased in intensity. I don't have the room on this page to explore the obvious signs of the Second Coming in world politics, technology, and Israel.
Who would ever believed hurricane Ike in 2008 would produce a 20-foot storm surge that reached 15 miles inland. Who would believe a tsunami would wipe out a nation? They laughed at Noah for 120 years before the big flood came, just like they did in New Orleans.
God always warns before he pours out his wrath on society. The signs are evident. Better get on the boat.

Today's Photograph....Duck Hunting (Will D)
Bible Study Verse James 1:6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. (NIV)
Thoughts I have been hunting ducks and geese for 20 years and I can tell you what species and how many were harvested on opening day of 1998. I can tell you how many pintails were shot in 2004, how good teal season was in 1993, and what direction the wind blew Christmas Eve 2006.
How? I record it in journals and have been doing so for years. I can tell you where and how many speckled trout we caught in Matagorda on June 5, 2005. I can tell you if top waters or soft plastics produced and which color of each. I can read the entry I wrote on June 2, 1999 when Chuck Uzzle and I caught and released eight speckled trout measuring over 28 inches. There is also a note about the trout I estimated over 32 inches that shook off my top waters as I was trying to grab it. (Bink G)
Action Point Try doing the same with your prayer life. Write down all of your requests and take them to the Lord daily. I have a list with over 200 people, situations, praises, and prospects I pray for daily. The list is ever expanding.
I use my prayer list as a bookmark for my daily Bible reading. When I wake up in the morning, praying and reading my Bible is the first thing I do. Pray for your friends, family, enemies, problems, patience, perseverance, direction, pray for anything and everything. Nothing is too great. Nothing is too small.

Today's Photograph.... Mountain Lion Attack at Cabelas (MQ)
Bible Study Verse Psalms 18:2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (NIV)
Thoughts On a recent scouting trip right about dusk, something caught the corner of my eye. As I slowed down, I saw a mountain lion not twenty yards away from me. Even though he saw me, he continued to walk parallel with me.
Now understand I drive a pretty unassuming vehicle. As a matter of fact, it is downright unintimidating. This is probably why the lion could have cared less that I was there. He figured he could take me.
I thought to myself, "Wow! It is rare to see a mountain lion. Let alone a mountain lion with an attitude."
It wasn't until I actually got out of my car that he suddenly appeared startled. He looked at me, looked at my vehicle (which he had at least a hundred pounds on), looked at me again, and then trotted back in the direction from which he came. (Brett M)
Action Point I make fun of my little car as do most of my friends. But, I do take solace in knowing that it has seatbelts, airbags, and some sheet metal surrounding me. Many people subscribe to the bigger is better belief. Which is true, an F250 is going to provide better protection than a Yugo.
David says that God is our "shield"; a shield that protects us from our enemies. In a world filled with evil, we must pray daily that God will protect us and our families.
We must be diligent in protecting our children. That means talking to them every day, being involved in their school and their friends, most importantly being a parent first, and then a friend second. To do otherwise would be like letting them fly through life on a high speed motorcycle without a helmet. It is not a matter of "if", but "when".

Today's Photograph....View Of The Top (Ross G)
Bible Study Verse Exodus 20:8-10 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. (NIV)
Thoughts It happened to me during a scouting trip for deer. The day had drawn to a close and I was heading home. I decided to stop in a nearby town for a bite to eat. As I approached the intersection, I noticed a man standing on the side of the road with the usual "will work for food sign." This is when I sometimes have a crisis in my compassion. Trying to overcome it, I stopped and asked the man what kind of work he was willing to do. I knew I could not offer him any, since I didn't even live there. I figured if I received a legitimate offer of landscaping, roofing, etc., I would give him some money.
Although fairly young and apparently healthy, he informed me that in fact he was not willing to work and was just there to get money from passersby. (Brett M)
Action Point I have been a Christian for some time and thought that I knew a little about the Bible. But, do you ever have one of those days when someone reads a verse to you that you have read a million times before and suddenly it has a whole new meaning.
That happened to me with the above mentioned scripture. Reading it since I was a child, I always heard the command, "Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy." It never dawned on me that it also said, "Six days you shall do all your work." This is commanding not only that I keep the Sabbath holy, but that I also work six days a week. I do not believe this to mean that I have to be in the office or at the fire station six days a week. It includes performing chores around the house, volunteering, etc.
In II Thessalonians 3:10 Paul writes, "If a man will not work, he shall not eat," (NIV). The important point here is "will not work." It does not include those who cannot work, only those who will not work. If you like me have a crisis in your compassion, remember what God says. We need to help the many, many people right now that have been laid off from work, are willing, and are able to work, but cannot find it. They probably are not going to be standing on street corners, but are in your church or in your neighborhood.

Today's Photograph: . . .Kind Of Like Two Boys On The Playground (FP)
Bible Study Verse Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywherein Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (NLT)
Thoughts The two bucks started with a simple scuffle. It was nothing serious, kind of like two boys on the playground. The two young bucks continued and the fight intensified.
Soon, what I was witnessing was an all-out brawl. One deer would push and shove the other backwards. Then the second deer would grab his footing and return the favor. They pushed, twisted, and flailed until I thought they would break each other's neck. The power displayed was enormous.
Finally, the exhausted deer broke apart and one was left alone, victorious. (Dennis W)
Action Point Some people love the power in cars, others seek power from their jobs, and many take power in relationships.
Power is one of the temptations that Satan used. He promised Jesus, the Creator of the entire universe, all the kingdoms of the world if Jesus would bow down and worship him.
Yet all the power we ever need for everything we face is found in the Holy Spirit. God Himself is living inside us, empowering us to live for Him. Those of us who are in Christ Jesus don't need the power from an outside source.
|

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day Some guys will opt for power out of the archery equipment instead of accuracy. (It is fine in the summer on the range in a t-shirt.) Be sure you aren't pulling too much poundage out of your bow. When it comes to the moment of truth and a monster steps out in an awkward place, you must be able to draw the only weapon in your hand.

Today's Photograph....Snow On Roof (Rebecca L)
Bible Study Verse I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (NIV)
Thoughts One of our favorite wintertime activities is cross country skiing as a family. If you stay inside for too long in the winter months, a person can go buggy. Cross country provides us a cheap outlet to get out of the house and get a breath of fresh air. For us to do this, my wife and I have had to teach each of the kids how to ski.
Cross country isn't hard once you get a little experience under your belt, but those first few lessons reinforce how easy it is to slip and fall. All it takes is being off balance a little bit and down you go.
The important part of this learning curve is, "How do I get back up?" So a quick lesson ensues getting your skis parallel while you are laying down on your side, and then using your poles to help push oneself back up. It's a simple lesson, but if you don't get back up, you won't ever reach your destination. (Dave M)
Action Point Spiritually, everyone falls down. The key is to get back up. God designed and created you for a life of purpose. The enemy, Satan, wants to keep you down and beat up. That way you are ineffective for the kingdom of God. Sin isn't good, but when you fall, go straight to God, ask for forgiveness, and get back up. God's forgiveness is quick and complete - accept it and learn from your mistake(s).
|
| |
|
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day For those of you, who live in a snowy climate, buy a roof rake to get the snow off your rooftops. Don't go up on your roof to shovel it off - you're inviting trouble. You do have to get the snow off though or you are looking at too much weight on the roof and potential leak problems with the ice backing up.

Today's Photograph.... View From the Bow (Cliff S)
Bible Study Verse Matthew 14:31 Immediately Jesus reached out His hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" (HCSB)
Thoughts Peter climbed out of the boat and began walking toward Jesus. Then the wind blew hard and his mind began to wonder and doubt. He began to sink and asked the Lord to save him. Of course, the Master of the Sea reached for Peter and saved him, then asked why he doubted. (Bink G)
Action Point The hard part for me would have been getting out of the boat. Can you imagine what people would say today if you stepped off the bow of your boat and tried to walk on water? Why does it take miraculous signs and wonders for us to believe in the omnipotent power of Jesus Christ?
He is the same yesterday, today, and forever! If He tells you to walk on water, don't hesitate - get your feet wet!

Today's Photograph....You Are Allowed Only One Kill In A Life Time (Cliff S)
Bible Study Verse John 9:25 He replied, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!" (NIV)
Thoughts The year? 1976. The tag? Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep in Hunt Unit 40A. In Arizona you can draw a sheep tag multiple times, if you are very lucky. But, you are allowed only one kill in a life time. Needless to say, this was a very special tag.
My friends were supportive and wanted me to harvest a really good trophy ram. The problem was, I had never hunted sheep and knew nothing about the animals, especially what they looked like in the mountains. That seems funny, but it is a physiological fact that you see what your mind is looking for. But, I had never seen sheep in the wild.
So, enter my friend, Jim, a premier sheep hunter. He put me on a herd of sheep and left me there for two days, just me, my spotting scope, and those sheep. By the time Jim picked me up, I could see sheep. It was like I had been blind before, but now they suddenly stood out up there on the side of the mountain.
I did get lucky and killed a nice trophy. I'm looking at it right now on my office wall! (Cliff S)
Action Point We can be spiritually blind for a variety of reasons. We may have never heard of Jesus and His gift of salvation. Maybe we've heard, but haven't had it explained so we can understand. It could be that we've listened to teaching that has blinded us to the truth of the Savior, that He is the only way to a relationship with God. For whatever reason, we might be blind to the truths of Jesus Christ.
Now, enter the Holy Spirit, perhaps through reading the Bible, through the testimony of a friend and believer, or maybe through the teaching of a local pastor or a great evangelist such as Billy Graham. However the Holy Spirit has brought the truth of Jesus into your life, suddenly you can see. You can understand your need for a Savior. You can believe in the truth that Jesus can bring into your life.
|

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day Before any hunt, get out into the mountains and "get your eye back" by spending time with your optics looking for the animals you will be hunting. It will really help once the excitement of the hunt arrives.

Today's Photograph.... Arizona Sunset (Bobby W).
Bible Study Verse Matt.5:13a "Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth." (MSG)
Thoughts Here's another way to put it, "You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in this world. God is no secret to be kept."
When I think back to my years growing up, I was most attracted to men like you reading this article. Sportsmen, hunters, adventurers, cowboys that rode rodeo & risked their lives, and especially if they had wall mounts of their conquests. My Christian parents worried that their maverick, rebel, and renegade ways would influence me away from Christianity, but they didn't. Instead they opened my eyes to the God-colors of this big beautiful world and encouraged me to explore and to expand my horizons to discover all that God made available to us as men. (Wes W)
Action Point Most of us are dads, grandpas, uncles, employers, guides, husbands, and friends. There're young men watching and looking for a hero. You may not think you have much of a christian testimony, but hero you do have an audience. Be "the Man," be courageous, live the adventure, fight the battle, and win your beauty. Get the book Wild at Heart by John Eldridge; it will get you started.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day Ever since my wife bought me this little point and shoot camera that fits in my shirt pocket, I've been noticing God-colors everywhere. God-flavors that I use to not notice.

Today's Photograph: ...Scaled Quail, Also Known As "Cotton Tops" or "Blues" (MQ)
Bible Study Verse Proverbs 30:2-3 "I am the most ignorant of men; I do not have a man's understanding. I have not learned wisdom, nor have I knowledge of the Holy One." (NIV)
Thoughts Years ago I read Robert Ruark's The Old Man and The Boy. The story is about a grandfather who teaches his grandson about fishing, hunting, and life in general.
While recently looking over the book again, I came across the chapter, "X+Y to the Second Power= Bluefish." In that chapter, Ruark writes about the old man telling his grandson about knowledge:
"Bear this in mind. Knowledge is an accumulation, like a pack rat hides things. Things you never knew you knew have a way of popping up later. You're supposed to fill your skull with a lot of things, against the day when you might need one of them. And remember this too: you can't pour a gallon of knowledge into a one-quart brain. The idea is to make the brain big enough and flexible enough to handle what it has to handle. I want to see better marks next month, or we might just find ourselves not shooting any quail this fall." (Tom L)
Action Point Many Christians including myself admit that we don't have a deep knowledge of God. This lack can cause believers to have an inconsistent walk and prayer life.
To know God is to have intimacy with Him. Knowing God is more than having ideas about Him. It involves opening our total innermost being to Him: intellect, emotion, and will. Daily reading and studying God's Living Word will increase your knowledge and produce an intimate understanding of who God is and His unending love.

Today's Photograph.... My Reward (Terry B)
Bible Study Verse Romans 5:3-8 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (TNIV)
Thoughts This fall held one the most challenging trips we had taken. Nothing was going right. The weather was nightmarish, the deer weren't moving like expected, and we had tried various locations while moving to three different motels. We weren't seeing hardly any deer, let alone the big ones we had gone there for. Yet at any point the rut could change, so we kept getting up at 5 in the morning and hunting the whole day. Finally after six days, someone flipped the switch. I harvested a really nice 10 point.
I'm sure you can think of challenging times you have had in the field or on the water. You wanted to give up, yet kept at it, and your perseverance was rewarded. Sometimes in life we want to give up due to circumstances, yet we are reminded of all Jesus has done for us. We have something to hope for, no matter what is happening at the current time. (Ross G)
Action Point Putting your faith and trust in Jesus is easy to do when things are going well. Use the challenging times to develop your character and to remember the love Jesus has for you. It's the tough times that will strengthen your faith in Him.

|
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day Have a backup plan. On this trip, we had several. Sometimes when things aren't going like you hoped having other options will be enough to keep your spirits up. Planning for the unexpected can keep you in the field instead of encouraging you to head home.

Today's Photograph...How Can I Learn To Be More Like You And Less Like The Jerk That I've Been? (MQ)
Bible Study Verse Proverbs 12:11-12 He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, but he who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding. The wicked covet the catch of evil men, But the root of the righteous yields fruit. (NKJV)
Thoughts Kevin smirked as he leaned up against his fifty thousand dollar sports car. His neighbor, Tom, was sitting on the tailgate of his worn-out pickup truck filing a hoe that he used in his garden. Pushing his sun-glasses back up his nose with one finger, Kevin sauntered over to Tom. "When are you going to give this garbage up? You're out here every day sweating, working, and for what? A bucket of tomatoes? I've got a sweet deal about to go down at work. Sure, it's a little shady. But, I'm going to earn enough this month to buy all of the tomatoes in this state!" With that he headed back to his car. He revved the engine and tore out down the road with radio thumping.
Tom smiled, shook his head, and kept filing the old hoe.
That very afternoon, Kevin rang the doorbell of Tom's house. He was clearly broken as tears ran down his face. "It's over, Tom. My boss found out about my big deal. He said that he didn't do business that way and he fired me. Now, on top of that, the other company is suing for my actions. I guess you were right all along, Tom."
Tom placed a big calloused hand on Kevin's shoulder. "The Bible says that we don't have any understanding if we follow frivolous things, Kevin."
Kevin was quiet for a minute. "Tom, how can I learn to be more like you and less like the jerk that I've been?"
Tom smiled again and handed Kevin a hoe. (Brian H)
Action Point Attention! Attention! This is a call to work and a call to live in righteousness! Just picture the writer of the Proverbs standing up on a hill overlooking the city. He clears his throat, cups his hands, and shouts out that line. Now, that's probably not how this proverb was written. But, no doubt, I have your attention now. Have you noticed a theme in the evening news over the last few years? I have seen two things:
- How can I get more money or things?
- If what I'm doing is wrong, I just need to change the rules so it is now right?
I can't think of any attitudes that are more contrary to the above mentioned verses! You can always find a clear contrast between worldly thoughts and what God has to say. You've seen the two themes of the world above. Now let's state those thoughts as God did in His Word:
- Wealth is not evil, but you have to work for it.
- The Bible is ultimate truth. Align yourself with it and live in righteousness.
Now compare and contrast those statements. Mull them over in your mind. Does your life square up with the Bible, which is ultimate truth? Do you work for your wants and needs or are you looking for a get-rich- quick scheme? Are you living in righteousness? Read the entire chapter of Proverbs 12. The root of the righteous yields fruit. There is life and no death. (To be continued. . .)

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day Even if you don't have a place to put a garden, you can fill some five-gallon buckets with soil and plant tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers. You should be able to raise enough vegetables to supply your table for the summer. Yes, it's a little extra work, but it's a blessing that you don't need to miss out on!

Today's Photograph....I'll Bet That Bucket Of Tomatoes (MQ)
Bible Study Verse Proverbs 12:25 Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad. (NKJV)
Thoughts (Kevin & Tom, Part II continued from yesterday) Kevin hacked away at some weeds in Tom's garden like a man chopping wood. Tom stopped his own work and watched as Kevin's fury intensified until finally he threw the hoe, dropped to his knees, and began to sob audibly as he dug up fists full of dirt.
Tom walked over and again put a large calloused hand on Kevin's shoulder. "Wanna talk about it?" Kevin shook his head and looked up at Tom. "Everything I thought I loved is now gone. I've lost my job, my car, my house is being foreclosed on, and my wife left me this morning."
Tom looked sad. "So, Tammy left too, huh?"
Kevin nodded again.
Tom continued, "You know, Kevin, the Bible says in Proverbs 12:15 that a guy that listens to good counsel is smart. Well, that's my own translation of it. So, will you listen to me?"
Kevin nodded again.
Tom spoke softly to Kevin. "Did you know that God is absolutely crazy about you, Kevin? Did you know that He thinks that you are awesome? Kevin, you were so important to God that He gave His Son to die for you and He's got bigger plans for you still to come."
Kevin wiped his face. "When, Tom?"
Tom smiled again. "Don't know for sure, buddy. But you'd better get ready, because God is waiting on you to get some stuff straight with Him so He can bless you big time."
A hint of a smile came across Kevin's face. "You think so?"
Tom helped Kevin up from the ground. "I'll bet that bucket of tomatoes that God has a big plan for a hot rod like you!"
For the first time in weeks, Kevin laughed. (Brian H)
Action Point People hurt. There's no two ways about it. At some point in your life, you will be one of the hurting ones. But, with God's help, at some point in your life, you will also be one of the helping ones. Have you found yourself just getting tired of being around people? You know what I mean. You get tired of grumpy and grouchy people that honk at you in the parking lot or that grumble at you when you're taking too long in the checkout line. Let's face it, people can aggravate us to no end. But, why are they that way? Have you ever thought that the guy that's yelling at you out the window of his car may have just lost his job?
God loves people. There's no two ways about it. If you're breathing, then God loves you. Today, look for an opportunity to douse somebody's anxiety with a good bucket full of love by way of a few kind words. You don't have to preach to them. Just give them a good word, a very quick proverb with no strings attached, or just a friendly hand on a slumped shoulder. Our world if full of anxious people that are teetering on the brink of depression. A good word can make their heart glad.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day A wooden box made out of 2 X 4s with clear plastic over the top makes a great winter grow box. You can raise lettuce, radishes, and onions in a box like this to enjoy a great garden salad during the winter.

Today's Photograph.... ( )
Bible Study Verse Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. (NIV)
Thoughts Late September, archery elk camp in northern Arizona. What a great time to be in the woods with my good friend, Bobby. I remember four things from this particular hunt: (Cliff S)
- My dog Herman who wouldnt let, shall we call them chunky, people into our camp (wefound that out when we came in from a rain storm withour ponchos over our packs, and when a particularfriend tried to come in to camp. Herman didnt likehim). But then again, Herman wouldnt let anyone into our camp.
- Bobbys green broke mule named Utah (emphasis on the word green). We planned to pack our elk out with Utah. Its too bad we didnt get one. That would have been a rodeo to see!
- The lightning storm that broke 100 foot pine trees in half. The trees literally exploded about thirty feet above the ground. Makes you think twice about sitting a tree stand.
- Bobby's camp coffee. Now you have to understand that in his younger and wilder days (translated pre-Nancy), Bobby was a cowboy on the Boquillas ranch near Seligman, Arizona. Making coffee consisted of pouring grounds in a pot, adding water, and boiling. Bobbys rule was to never throw out the grounds, just add more coffee and water. On Thursday of the week long hunt I was dumping the contents of the coffee pot on the ground. Bobby hollered at me to stop, and to just add more coffee and more water. I pointed out to Bobby that there wasnt any room for more coffee or water in the pot. It was full to the top with the weeks coffee grounds!
Action Point Camp coffee. For many of us, a necessary part of the morning. If we dont have our morning cup of coffee its going to be a bad day. Some of us make it at home and take a Thermos full with us. Others make the obligatory stop at Starbucks or Circle K for their caffeine hit. I like to make camp coffee and then slip away and enjoy a little time by myself. Theres something about a cup of coffee, my Bible, and my prayer time that just makes the day better. It was recorded that Jesus would go to the mountains alone for His time of refreshment with the Father. If it was good enough for Jesus, its good enough for me. I wonder if there was a Starbucks in Jerusalem?

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day By boiling water and using instant coffee and instant oatmeal you can have a pretty easy breakfast, and sleep a few minutes longer while the water heats up. If youre cooking inside the tent or a camper, remember to vent the enclosure by opening the windows so you dont trap carbon monoxide inside.

Today's Photograph.... Eagerly Awaiting His Return (MQ)
Bible Study Verse Luke 21:34-36 "But be on your guard. Don't let the sharp edge of your expectation get dulled by parties and drinking and shopping. Otherwise, that Day is going to take you by complete surprise, spring on you suddenly like a trap, for it's going to come on everyone, everywhere, at once. So, whatever you do, don't go to sleep at the switch. Pray constantly that you will have the strength and wits to make it through everything that's coming and end up on your feet before the Son of Man." (MSG)
Thoughts I had been sitting near the water tank for a few hours, with a cow elk tag in my backpack. Nothing had come in and darkness was near. As I grew tired and my senses seemed to dull, I suddenly detected the unmistakable smell of elk. It hit me in the face like a Mike Tyson upper cut, but I could see nothing.
For several minutes I searched the areas in my line of vision, nothing in front of me and nothing to the sides of me; it must be behind me I thought. After fifteen minutes of waiting and the sun setting, I decided I needed to turn to see if it was behind me, even at the risk of alerting it to my presence. Slowly I turned and there it was, a large bull elk standing 20 feet behind at the edge of the tree line.
Fortunately he hadn't seen me. For the next twenty minutes he stood motionless. With an extreme amount of patience and diligence, he slowly scanned the area for danger. His head moved so slow as to be undetectable, until I noticed his antlers where now facing a different direction. He continued this for the better part of an hour and well into the darkness. (Brett M)
Action Point Jesus tells us to look at the fig tree. When the leaves begin to change colors we know that the season is beginning to change. He says that we will be able to recognize the season of His return in the same way. We will not know the day or time. But, we will know the season.
Many of the signs He tells us to look for are all around us. Many believe we are in the season of the end times. Whether we are or not, Jesus instructs us to be watchful. We are to be like that elk and diligently watch out for the signs and dangers, to "look to the heavens" for His return. Many of us have seen the surprise when an animal steps into our line of sight during hunting season. Do not let that day take you by "complete surprise."
