Varmint; I have nothing at all against them, but I personally don't have one. Just one-a those things, the right deal at the right time never came around. I do have a wide variety of glass, both in maker & quality. For the price of the 4200's, I'd also look at the current Nikon Monarch's. Nikon is re-vamping that line & you can get some outstanding buys on a Monarch these days if you go looking around. I picked up a 4.5-14 A/O Monarch outta Midway for $279.00 recently. The other one I'd suggest checking out is the Zeiss Conquest. Zeiss is simply incredible glass for the dollar right now. I'm thinking that the 3-9X 40mm can be had for right about $400.00 these days. 900F Edited by CB900F |

I've got two of them a 3200 and 4200. the 4200 started life on my 338 mag and it has taken about a dozen deer maybe more (6-18x50 mm). I bought it for leopard night hunting and used it in that role. Then I shifted it to a 416 mag and took it grizzly hunting in AK. Seemed to work well including 2 weeks in a dog sled at 10 to -50 degrees traveling 120-150 miles a day. Then stuck it on a 243 heavy barrel for PDs, shot sub MOA groups with it. Removed it from the 243 when I replaced it with more XXs (6-20 Leupold). Now it is on my long range bean field rifle (300 RUM). All that moving and wear and tear probably constitutes some type of field test. Never a problem. The 3200 was on sale and I couldn't pass them up. It has not yet had a significant hunting Carree. Brother has a 3200 on his 270 WSM, no problems after about 5 years. BEAR |

Thank you both for the reply, and advice, I have several Bushnell Trophies and really like them. The reason for the post on the elite was that i am really interested in the rainguard aspect(sorry i forgot to put that in my post) Last season i really got rained on and had trouble seeing through the scope, and had to carry lots of toilet paper in my jacket, and the salesman at Cabelas tolod me that rainguard would eliminate the problem. Any one have any experience with rainguard?

I have the 3200. The 4200 is more expensive than it should be in my opinion. For what I'd spend on a 4200, I'd look to another brand. Being that as it is, the 3200 Bushnell Elite is good glass. I've had it sit atop my Remington 870 12 gauge slug gun for a number of years now without flaw. It's clear and bright and holds zero well. It has also shot very well for me with the Remington Premier Core-Lokt ultra sabot slugs. Groups at 100 yards are around 2 inches - not bad for a shotgun. Anyhow I do have one major complaint. The fast focus eyepiece tends to move if the breeze blows the wrong way. I don't like it at all, especially if you add the Butler Creek flip-open scope covers which tend to roll the rubber of the eyepiece over and deforms it. It's more of an ergonomic concern, having nothing to do with holding zero or quality of glass, but it is bothersome.

Never had rain problems, on any scope Elites or Leupoles. Like Mountaineer gun, I use Butler Creek scope caps, the flip ups on all my rifles. Protects from rain, snow and brush. I have some Trophy scopes and I a tually like the easy turn power rings. Some scopes take two men and a boy to change, no good if you are staring at game and need more Xs BEAR |

I've got a Bushnell with the E-Z focus "Euro-style" ocular ring. It was waaay too E-Z to change. I took some clear silicon & ran a bead around it when I had it set. Don't move much now. It isn't the power ring that's the problem, it's the focus ring for the eyepiece. I've never had a problem with rain on a scope either. But then, it don't rain here. Foo! |

Hey Tikka I didnt get to talk to chris, but if i ever have any problems with the scope, or have any questions ill look him up. The SWFA site is really neat and if you look at the LIST you can get some fantastic deals on lots of optical equipment, not just scopes. Im recommending it to all my friends. Ill let you know how this one works, with this scope mounted and all the help SEVENMAG gave me with my load development im expecting great things. |
