Well, over the long weekend I finally got the 2 latest acquisitions out to the range. I ordered a set of Leupold ring mounts for the Sako, they fit perfect and, of course, Leupold standard bases for the X-bolt. I had a VX3 2.5-8X36 on the shelf for it that fits perfect. I put a Burris 3-9 on the Sako. The scope came on something else I bought and is a pretty nice piece of glass, but it doesn't have the eye relief I like for a big rifle, so I figured it would work OK on the little Dog Slayer, we'll see. I loaded up some 55gr FMJ and 4064 for the 222 just to get it hitting paper and it did pretty well. The rifle has an awesome trigger. More load work and she'll be the bane of D's dogtowns!! The Browning is simply amazing. I had a couple boxes of whatever 308 loads on the shelf and the little rifle can easily put 3-4 shots in an inch or just over. Could my quest for the perfect deer rifle possibly be over...

Sounds like two great combos.  should be good for most anything.  Got to love that '60 Sako...lots.

For my 222 on PDs, I like Hornady 50 gr SX (super explosive), now called 50 gr V-max.  Most shots are 100-200 yards.  But after some 'ranging shots',  I managed to get good kills a 410 yards and 600 yards.  Groups 1/2", and it could probably do better (but olde eyes, ugh).

Post some groups with that 222, before next years PD trip.  The boys should love that little rifle.
